Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Good luck to all of our Marathon Training Program participants and SLR regulars who will be running the Rock n Roll DC marathon on Saturday morning! If you're not racing this weekend or have a marathon later in the season, this week's regularly scheduled long run will be the Big Loop (with Detour) (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) for 23 miles. To run less than 23 miles, I'd recommend just turning around when you reach half your distance and making it an out & back. I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Richard will get things started for you on Saturday morning!
Thank you Aziz Abdullahi for this week's post-run drinks! We will more volunteers in April and beyond, so please let me know when you can help out. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
For those of you tapering to run Rock n Roll DC next week, this week's SLR on March 2 will be a little bit shorter than usual, Chain Bridge Loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) for 10 miles. If you'd like to extend it to 12 or 14 miles, you can do so by following the Marymount Chain Bridge variation of this route that's also in our regular rotation.
Thank you Jill Brasky for providing post-run drinks for the last two weeks!
The club's annual banquet and membership meeting is this weekend on Sunday, at Maggiano's in Friendship Heights! If you're still planning to attend but haven't registered yet, you can do so on the club website until noon on Sunday. Families are welcome, and there will be plenty of food included with cash bar available. The program will include presentation of annual awards, election of the following year's board of directors, a state of the club presentation, plus guest speaker Dr. Mark Cucuzzella, one of the world's leading running doctors and creator of the Air Force Efficient Running Program.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
Our route this week is Ross Drive (download: cue sheet and GPS) for 14.5 miles. If you'd like to go for additional distance, each loop of Beach Drive and Ross Drive is about 3.5 miles, so you can make it an 18 mile run by adding a second loop. For a shorter run, I'd suggest going out & back on the Rock Creek Park trail, turning around whenever you reach half of your desired distance.
Thank you Jill Brasky for providing our post-run drinks this week! We will need another volunteer after next week to cover 3/9 and 3/16, so please let me know if you're planning to be at SLR for these two weeks and would be willing to help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
