SLR February 9 - Battery Kemble Loops

Hello Saturday Runners!

This week, on Saturday February 9, our route will be 16 miles to Battery Kemble Loops (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). If you'd like to run less than 16 miles, you can get 14 miles by following the route to the base of the park where the two loops start (without running the loops) and then following the route back. For less than that, you can turn around at any earlier point on the route, as the rest of it is an out & back. Some good news this week - I'm going to be back at SLR this Saturday! I won't be running anything close to 16 miles yet, but I'm still looking forward to getting out there again with everyone!

Thank you Kaitlin Slaven for post-run drinks this week! We currently do not have any more volunteers scheduled for post-run drinks after this week, so please let me know ASAP if you can help. Post run drinks will not resume until the next volunteer steps up. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.

If you're looking for longer mid-winter race, the club's annual George Washington's Birthday Marathon is coming up soon on February 17! The race includes options for a full marathon, as well as a three-runner relay, and registration includes free digital race photos, great food and finisher medals once you cross the finish line, and over $1500 in awards money to be distributed. The course includes 13 aid stations roughly every 2 miles, and is a USATF certified Boston qualifier. Even if you're not racing, we'd love to see you there as a volunteer, which you also register for via the race website linked above. We still need 20+ volunteers, and all volunteers will get the same great looking long sleeve 1/4 zip tech tee as the runners.

The following weekend on February 24, DCRRC will be fielding a team for the RRCA Club Challenge Ten Miler in Columbia, MD. This is your chance to compete against other local running clubs and represent DCRRC in a cross-country style team-scored event! If you are a current club member, we will pay your entry fee, and your participation is free. Bus transportation to and from the race is also available by for $10, with pick-up & drop-off options at Courthouse or Dupont Circle.

The club's annual banquet and membership meeting will be on Sunday, March 3, at Maggiano's in Friendship Heights. Families are welcome, and there will be plenty of food included with cash bar available. The program will include presentation of annual awards, election of the following year's board of directors, a state of the club presentation, plus guest speaker. Please register in advance if you plan to attend.

Happy running,

Mike
