Volunteer

Welcome to the DC Road Runners Club volunteer page.

We are always looking for volunteers for races and conducting training runs.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We are still in need of a lot more volunteers for the George Washington Birthday Marathon and Relay, February 19th.  This is a large race for the club, and it wouldn’t be possible to host without your support as a volunteer.  This is a great opportunity to volunteer before the marathon, before or after your relay leg.  You can even invite family and friends to volunteer while they cheer you on. To volunteer sign up here.

Group Volunteer Opportunities:

The club will again be supporting a water stop at the United Airlines Rock'n'Roll DC Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday, March 18th. Volunteering counts toward the requirements for the 2022-23 Snowball Series.

Our stop is at North Capitol Street and L Street, half-way on the 5K course and at the 11.7 mile point on the half-marathon course. Setup starts at 6:30 AM, before roads close at 7:00 AM, with 5K runners expected at 8:05 AM and the first half-marathoners expected around 9:15 AM. We'll be done at 1:00 PM.

To volunteer, please sign up here, using the password "WS7". You'll be taken to the race's VolunteerLocal site to enter your contact information.

Ted Cochrane is the team captain and the club's contact if you have any questions. More details will be sent out early in March.

The club is supporting the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run by volunteering as a group at the Race Expo packet pickup on Friday night, March 31, 2023, at the National Building Museum. The shift will run from 5 PM until 8:30 PM. This is the 50th anniversary of the race, so there are going to be a lot of special events at the Expo. To sign up, go to the CB volunteer site here and enter the password “DCRRC”. If you would like to help but Friday evening isn’t convenient, sign up for a different volunteer job without the password. For helping out, you earn a transferable, guaranteed entry to the 2024 race (at the prevailing entry fee). You also get volunteer credit for the DCRRC 2022-23 Snowball Series.

Save the Date! The Club is supporting a PNC Parkway Classic 10-Miler water stop on Sunday, April 23, 2023. Details to follow; sign up here now. Christie Wetzel and Rodrigo Vellon will be leading our team.

Race Timing and Co-Directing

We are looking for club members interested in gaining experience in timing races as well as co-directing club races or becoming race directors. If interested, please contact Ben.

Saturday Long Run Group (SLR)

The Saturday Long Run needs volunteers to provide post-run beverages.  This will count towards your race series volunteer credit and you will be reimbursed. Contact Megan Curtin if you are interested.

Please update your profile information by clicking here so we know where we can contact you for help!

Upcoming Volunteer Needs

We have urgent needs for volunteers at several upcoming Club and external races we're supporting. Please "pay it forward" by coming out and supporting our running community!
Friday, March 31 to Sunday, April 2: Cherry Blossom 10-Mile and 5K races, click here to volunteer or email Nita Roncone.
Sunday, April 23, PNC Parkway Classic 10 Mile Water Stop, click here to volunteer.

Constant Needs:

We are always looking for Saturday Long Run refreshment volunteers. If you plan to attend SLR for at least 2 consecutive weeks, and haven't volunteered in a while (or at all), please consider helping to support the group (and yourself)! This is a fairly easy job, all you have to do is bring gatorade, water, and cups to SLR on Saturday morning, and the club will reimburse the expenses (think of all the rewards points you can get!)  Please (read: please, please, pretty please) check the SLR Page for dates needed, and e-mail slr@dcroadrunners.org if you are able to help out!
