Volunteer

Welcome to the DC Road Runners Club volunteer page.

We are always looking for volunteers for races and conducting training runs.

Volunteer Opportunities:

41st Running of the Capital Challenge, Wednesday, May 17th at Anacostia Park

This race pits journalists against members of Congress, senior administration officials subject to Senate confirmation, federal judges, and military members of admiral or general rank.

It started in 1982 and brings journalists into contact with sources and allows government officials to interact via running and away from partisan politics. All entry fees go to the Junior Achievement charity.

Club members have dominated the race over the years and include numerous winners of the fastest journalist and fastest administration official awards, as well as the fastest general/admiral. The two top race officials are former DCRRC presidents, Jeff Darman and Phil Stewart.

The race is during the workweek, Wednesday morning, May 17, in Anacostia ParkInformation on volunteering is at: https://capitalchallenge.com/race-volunteers-needed/

The 2023 Bunion Derby Series will kick off with the Women’s Distance Festival (WDF) and Run After the Women (RATW) 5k on Sunday June 4th. Click to Volunteer during this race.

Race Timing and Co-Directing

We are looking for club members interested in gaining experience in timing races as well as co-directing club races or becoming race directors. If interested, please contact Ben.

Saturday Long Run Group (SLR)

The Saturday Long Run needs volunteers to provide post-run beverages.  This will count towards your race series volunteer credit and you will be reimbursed. Contact Megan Curtin if you are interested.

Upcoming Volunteer Needs

We have urgent needs for volunteers at several upcoming Club and external races we're supporting. Please "pay it forward" by coming out and supporting our running community!
Sunday, April 23, PNC Parkway Classic 10 Mile Water Stop, click here to volunteer.

Constant Needs:

We are always looking for Saturday Long Run refreshment volunteers. If you plan to attend SLR for at least 2 consecutive weeks, and haven't volunteered in a while (or at all), please consider helping to support the group (and yourself)! This is a fairly easy job, all you have to do is bring gatorade, water, and cups to SLR on Saturday morning, and the club will reimburse the expenses (think of all the rewards points you can get!)  Please (read: please, please, pretty please) check the SLR Page for dates needed, and e-mail slr@dcroadrunners.org if you are able to help out!
