2025 Fall Marathon Training ProgramOur Fall Marathon Training Program is designed to help runners train for the Marine Corps Marathon. Other marathons can be accommodated, just let your coaches know so they can discuss tweaks to the training program.
The training program begins Saturday, June 21, 2025 and officially ends October 18, 2025. The first group run is on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Group runs will meet every Saturday through October 18, 2025 with mid-week track runs throughout the program. Track runs will start once trainees have a sufficient base to do track workouts without injury. Prior to track runs, the program will include quality workouts designed to build strength and endurance to prep trainees for the track.
Saturday group runs will meet at 7:00 a.m. at North Meade Street Park, which is across the street from the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial in Rosslyn, Virginia. (Note: at 7 a.m. there are general club announcements and a description of the route for the day. The training program usually hangs back for a few minutes to allow for tips from the coaches and for trainees to pair up with pacers.)
All paces are welcome! We encourage beginner, intermediate, and advanced runners to join us. We recommend that trainees be running a minimum of 20 miles per week and be able to complete a long run of at least 10 miles. If you are targeting a race before Marine Corps, you should be running more than 10 miles as your long run at the start of the program. Contact us for more information about where you should be for earlier marathons. If you have not run a marathon before, we strongly recommend that you consult your physician prior to entering this program. Registration is open to participants 18 years of age and older as of the start of the program. What's included in the training program?
What's new for 2025?
Weather Policy: Safety is our number one priority. A race, training run, or other event may be canceled, delayed, suspended or postponed, or the course may be modified in the event of threatening weather conditions that could make the run unsafe for participants. Such threatening weather conditions may include: lightning, heavy rains, wind / tornadoes, extreme heat, ice / snow, or other major weather conditions. Extreme heat is defined as a heat index that meets or exceeds 105 °F at the time of the event or run. Lightning strikes within one mile of the planned course are considered threatening. It is up to the race director or run leader to determine whether the conditions are threatening and communicate any decision to alter the event or run to participants.
