Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's long run on Saturday, February 20, will be 13 miles on Glover Archbold Pandas (additional map here). To shorten the run to 10 miles or less, you can run out & back along only the Glover Archbold trail, or to add distance you can go all the way to the 14th Street Bridge (or beyond) on your way back. It's looking like you'll have a great day to run on Saturday, with high temps forecast in the 60s!
I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Dan Lesmez will kick things off for you on Saturday morning.
Thank you Rochelle Sceats for our post-run beverages! After this week, we will not have post-run beverages until the next volunteer steps up, so please let me know when you're available to help. Up-to-date future volunteer needs as well as a route schedule are always available on our web page, and you can email me to schedule your slot. Any time you can volunteer for at least 2 consecutive weeks is helpful, and if you can do 4 weeks (or more!) that's ideal. Volunteering is easy, and all of your expenses for supplies will be reimbursed by the club.
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's long run on Saturday, February 13, will be out and back on the C&O Canal Towpath (additional map here). The scheduled distance for those of you building up to spring marathons is 20 miles, but you can easily go however long or short you like on this route, by turning around after half of your target distance. After getting onto the Towpath, mile markers will roughly correspond to distance form our meeting point, so to get 20 miles, the turn-around point will be near mile marker 10 (just past the Beltway). Forecasted temperature on Saturday morning is in the teens, with wind chill in single digits, so be sure to dress very warmly. After finishing your long run, don't forget to go cheer for your favorite American marathoners in the US Olympic Trials race on Saturday afternoon!
Thank you Rochelle Sceats for our post-run beverages this week! After the next 2 Saturdays, we do not have any more volunteers lined up, so please let me know when you're available to help. Up-to-date future volunteer needs as well as a route schedule are always available on our web page, and you can email me to schedule your slot. Any time you can volunteer for at least 2 consecutive weeks is helpful, and if you can do 4 weeks (or more!) that's ideal. Hello Saturday Runners!
With all the rain and snow-melt we've had in the last few days, I expect that this week's originally planned route (Glover-Archbold Pandas) is probably a soggy mess on the trail. Instead, I'm switching the planned routes for 2/6 and 2/20 so that we run the MBT-Catholic route this Saturday, for a similar distance of just over 14 miles. You can shorten this route by doing only out & back on the Mall and Metropolitan Branch Trail rather than the full loop, or lengthen it on any of the major trails, since this route will pass almost all of them. This will include Rock Creek Park, C&O Towpath, Capital Crescent, Cusits, and Mount Vernon.
Many thanks go to Kyle Edgerton for providing our post-run beverages over the last 6 weeks! We will need more volunteers starting in the last week of February, so please let me know when you're available to help. Up-to-date future volunteer needs as well as a route schedule are always available on our web page, and you can email me to schedule your slot. Any time you can volunteer for at least 2 consecutive weeks is helpful, and if you can do 4 weeks (or more!) that's ideal. Happy running!
