Hello Saturday Long Runners!
As a reminder there is no SLR this weekend, instead come out and race (or just run for fun!) the Al Lewis 10 Miler at Hains Point! This looks to be the warmest Al Lewis in recent memory (which is to say it’s not going to be under 20). Equally as important, it looks like the wind and rain should hold off until after the race! As a reminder, signups close TONIGHT at 7 PM and there will not be race day registration in accordance with our NPS permits.
The Route: The gun goes off at 7:30 tomorrow for a double out and back around Hains Point. This is a fast, flat, USATF certified course, but that doesn’t mean you have to race it. Snowball Series races are free for club members and are a great opportunity to experiment in a low-stakes race environment. Try out some new racing shoes, see what outfits work best for the weather, practice taking water along the course, eat a new breakfast, the possibilities are endless!
Want Something Shorter? There’s also a 5 Miler option for a single out and back around Hains Point that starts at 7:45! If you want the day off, please consider helping out and volunteering! We still need more volunteers!
Need a Longer Route? Warmups and cooldowns of any distance can make for a further run. Park at SLR start for a 4-ish mile downhill warmup and a 4-ish mile uphill cooldown to get around 18 for the day!
Thirsty? There will be a water stop at the end of Hains Point, which we’ll pass four times during the race. This year it should even be liquid water and not frozen!
Need a Bathroom? Historically bathroom access before the race has been hit or miss, but I believe the park service will be opening them for us this year!
The next club race is the JFK 20K and MLK 5K next Saturday. SLR will be cancelled once again, come out to Carderock for a fun event! We still need volunteers as well, please help out if you can!
