Marine Corps Marathon - Tent Information

DCRRC is excited to partner for the fourth year in a row with an amazing charity, Hope For The Warriors. They are gracious enough to share their space with us on Charity Hill.

Arrival Time and Location:

The tent will open at 6:00 a.m. Access to the Hope For The Warriors tent is through a Marine check point located at N. Meade Street (the road that leads to the back of Fort Myer/Arlington Cemetery).  The Marines will be checking bags. Let the sentry know you are with Hope For The Warriors.

Transportation, Parking, Drop Off:

MetroRail opens at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.  The Rosslyn Metro station is the easiest for Iwo Jima – Charity Hill – about a 15 minute walk.

DROP OFF – another option – you can have loved ones drop you off on the Virginia side near Iwo and you can walk in.  Possible drop off locations include Clarendon Blvd and Arlington Blvd at one of the cross streets - Queen, Pierce or Oak Street.

Tent Details:

The tent will be stocked and ready for you any time after 6:00 a.m.  It will have ample room for you, coaches, and family members who might want to wait for you to finish.  Breakfast and lunch will be available (coffee, bagels, candy, water, drinks, snacks, and pizza for the lunch time crowd….). We will have massage therapists for all, and if you opt for a message, it is always nice to leave a tip, so remember to bring some money!  There will be shelving in the tent so that you can leave your bag without it sitting on the damp ground.  Please use the clear bag the Marine Corps Marathon issues you with your bib and goodies ... nothing opaque for security reasons.  Near the tent will be clean, no-line porta-potties - for that last minute stop or a change after the race…So bring warm clothes to change into.  The tent will have tables, chairs, lighting, electricity and anything else you might need in an emergency.

Volunteers:

Hope For The Warriors is always looking for volunteers to man the tent, clean up or help out.  So if your loved one wants to wait and help with the tent while you’re out “running crazy”, that’s ok too.  Hope For The Warriors will have 9 combat-wounded service members who are awesome; talk to them and hear their stories, and about 120 who are running for the charity.

Timing:

Since the Charity Village is so close to the start, you can easily stay in the tent until nearly 10 minutes before race start and keep warm!

Please email Katie Madison with questions.
