2013 JFK 20K & MLK 5KJFK 20K / MLK 5K Race Sold OutWe have reached the total combined registration for the JFK 20K and MLK 5K races next Saturday, January 19th. We cannot accept further applications, so kindly don't email us to ask for an exception. Also, please do not show up in Carderock if you are not on the list of confirmed runners, as we will not be accepting day-of-race registrations ... our registration and permitting process with the National Park Service includes a good-faith estimate for no-shows, so there is no additional flexibility in this regard. We have lots of other races coming up, including the Langley 8K, the George Washington Birthday Marathon and Relay, the Burke Lake 12K and the Fort Hunt 10K. Thank you for understanding. The 2012 John F. Kennedy (JFK) 20K and Martin Luther King (MLK) 5K races will be held in mid-January. This year, the races will start and finish in Carderock and will be out-and-back courses on the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath. The 20K will count as the fourth DC Road Runners Snowball Series race. Distance and course: This races will feature both a 20K and a 5K on the C&O Towpath. The 20K course will be an out-and-back from Carderock to just past the 5-mile marker, a half mile before Chain Bridge. The 5K course will be an out-and-back from Carderock to just past the I-495 Beltway overpass. Registration: Please Register online before the race. There will be no race day registrations. Online registration will close at 7:00 P.M. on January 18. Want to run both races? Then please register twice, once for each distance ... you'll have to use two different email addresses to do this. Packet Pickup: Please pick up your Chronotrack tag and join your fellow DC Road Runners for discounted drinks, free munchies (which some of us call "dinner"), swag and friendship at our Club Happy Hour on January 18th from 6 to 9 pm. Where? The Liberty Tavern, 3195 Wilson Boulevard (near Clarendon metro). Refund policy for low key races: In the event the race is canceled, pre-paid non-members will receive a credit to be applied to a future low-key race. NPS Race Rules: These races take place in the National Park Service's jurisdiction. Please familiarize yourself and comply with our NPS Race Rules. Race-day Information: Please arrive early to pick up your timing chip. We plan to start the race at the far south-east end of the Carderock Recreation Area (the opposite end from where we start/finish the Gar Williams Half Marathon). Timing and Awards: This race is timed using the Chronotrack timing system. Please familiarize yourself with how the timing tags work by visiting the Chronotrack website. Contact: to Volunteer or for information Daryl Knuth, 301-233-7147 cell. Directions: Take the Capital Beltway (I-495), to the Clara Barton Parkway headed west, outside the beltway. Make a right on the first exit which is for both Carderock and the Naval Surface Warfare Center (Carderock Division). Turn left at the stop sign at the top of the ramp to cross the parkway. After passing under the canal, turn left for parking in the lot closest to DC. If the lot is full, please turn right and use one of the other parking lots.
