Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM for the rest of the year. Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

In club news, there is a "Beer + Bunion Awards" Happy Hour, Thursday Nov. 8th from 6-9pm at Ireland's Four Courts Pub in Arlington (metro to Courthouse). Check the DCRRC webpage for details on this event as well as upcoming Turkey Trots!
We currently do not have anyone on deck for post run beverages for the month of November, so please consider volunteering and keeping your fellow runners hydrated. Its really not that much work and the club reimburses your expenses - Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Mileage Options:
Don't forget to turn those clocks back to standard time this weekend!

This Sat, Oct 27th we will be running the Piney Branch route, listed at 13 miles. I will not be there but Brian will be getting things started.
Good luck to everyone running Marine Corps Marathon Sunday!! Something tells me we won't be seeing you at the SLR. If you aren't running Sunday and would like to help out there are multiple needs. DCRRC could use volunteers at the race tent we will be sharing with Hope For Warriors, email Katie if you are interested. Also, DCRRC is hosting a waterstop at 14th street SW between C and D streets (mile 20). Come on out at 9:00 AM to watch the race and support the runners-including numerous club members. There is no need to RSVP-just bring yourself and friends are welcome.
Please thank Christine Westcott for our post-run drinks! She has done a great job all month. We currently don't have anyone on deck for November (starting next week) and seek volunteers. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Although plenty of club members are doing Marine Corps there are also quite a few folks who still have their fall Marathons coming up; Philly is 3 weeks out and Richmond is in 2 weeks. If you need longer than 13 miles, I am advising runners to continue on the C&O canal towpath after passing by Georgetown for an out and back, then eventually taking the Key Bridge back to our meeting spot.
Happy Running and Racing this weekend!

This Sat, Oct 20th we will be running the 4 Mile Run park to Pentagon route, listed at 11 miles. Check the cue sheet for clarification. We continue to meet 8:00am at the small park NW of Iwo Jima. Only 1 week left until Marine Corps Marathon! This is a great chance to do a final mid-length run, nice and flat, and keep that pace easy - save your energy for next weekend.
Good Luck to everyone running Army 10 Miler Sunday! Run fast and enjoy this great Fall racing weather!
Please thank Christine Westcott for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
If you need MORE miles you know the drill! Continue on Mt. Vernon and come back through Rosslyn for around 1.5 extra miles, do the "bridge to bridge" run (~4 extra), or run down to the Capital Building and back (~6 extra).
