Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Tomorrow's run will be 16 miles, giving you a chance to check out the Marine Corps Marathon route with a Mock MCM (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). This will take you along (or close to) most of the major sections of the race course, with options to either extend or shorten as needed for your own schedules. If you'd like to add 2 miles, my first recommendation is to turn left in Rosslyn just after the start, running uphill along Lee Hwy until Adams St before turning around back to the route. This will approximate the early hill that you'll have here on race day. For 2 more miles, or if you'd like your 2 additional miles to be flat, after passing the Georgetown Waterfront turn left and head north along Rock Creek for 1 mile out & back. To cut 2 miles and make it 14 instead of 16, skip the National Mall portion, but still run west along Independence, out & back to the Lincoln Memorial before passing the Tidal Basin again and crossing the 14th St bridge.
Thank you Rodrigo Vellon & Christie Wetzel for post-run drinks, and Kyle Edgerton for mid-run drinks! Mid run beverages will be located at the Tidal Basin parking lot off of Maine Ave, near the paddle-boats, between 7 and 8 miles into the run.
We have beverages mostly covered for the rest of the summer, but still need to fill in volunteers for both post-run and mid-run drinks on October 6, so please let me know if you can help out with this. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
Tomorrow we will be running 13 miles on the Normanstone Klingle route (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). If you'd like to go further, you can continue north along Rock Creek Park before turning around to head back, or to shorten the route I'd suggest simply going out & back on Rock Creek without the Normanstone loop. After you pass the Zoo on your way back, I expect that you'll need to run through the Beach Dr tunnel again, due to trail closure in that area.
Thank you to Rodrigo Vellon & Christie Wetzel for post-run drinks, as well as Ruby & Katherine Len for mid-run drinks! Mid run beverages will be located on Klingle Rd (or Woodley Rd just before it), before going downhill along the Klingle Valley Trail into Rock Creek.

Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This Saturday‘s route will take you out to run a few loops around the National Arboretum (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) for 18 miles. To shorten the run you can either go for a shorter loop inside the arboretum, or if you just run out & back to the entrance of the arboretum it’s 14 miles. I’m going to be out of town this weekend and will again unfortunately miss running this almost-new route with the group, but Coach Jonny will be there to kick things off. After a brutal morning last Saturday, things are looking a lot nicer this weekend, with forecasted dew point around 60 and temperature no higher than the mid 70s during the run.
Thank you Kate Scott for post-run drinks and Katherine & Madelyn Zeller for mid-run drinks this week! Mid run drinks will be on R St NE, just outside the entrance to the arboretum at about 7 miles into the run. Note: The arboretum opens at 8:00 am, so with the run starting a few minutes after 7:00, the faster end of our group might reach the gates to find them closed - if you wind up in that position, grab a drink, rest a few minutes, and pick it back up again after 8:00.
We have post-run beverages mostly covered for the rest of the summer, but still need to fill in volunteers for few more weeks of mid-run beverages including next week, so please let me know when you can help out. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot.
