Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Tomorrow's route is Four Mile Run Park (downloads: cue sheet and GPS), for 11.5 miles. If you'd like to go shorter than this, I'd recommend out & back on the Mt Vernon Trail, as the turnoff will be at about 5 miles out. For about one extra mile you can continue past Roosevelt Island on your way back and return via Rosslyn, and for more than that go up and down the Custis Trail (or hop over the Key Bridge, etc.) before returning to the start. You should have a nice cool sunny fall morning in store tomorrow that's looking like a great day for a long run!
Thank you Christine and Paul Westcott for providing post-run drinks, and thanks to Rich Mendelowitz for filling in for me this week! We are now in need of more volunteers for post-run drinks starting next week, so please let me know right away if you can help. Post-run drinks will not resume until we get another volunteer. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
The Alexandria Turkey Trot 5 Miler is coming up in only two weeks on Thanksgiving Day. If you are in town, it's a great way to start off the holiday morning on a neighborhood race course that's friendly to speedsters, strollers, turkey costumes, dogs, and everything in between! This race is one of our club's premier events of the year, and our single biggest source of revenue, so we would love to see you there either running or volunteering. Registration for both is at the link above.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route is the 12 mile National Capitol loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). You can shorten the route to just under 10 miles if you return directly via Memorial Bridge, and if you'd like to add distance, Hains Point, Mt Vernon Trail, Rock Creek Park Trail, and Custis Trail are all convenient options. After some rain on Friday, it's looking like things will hopefully clear up for a great cool morning on Saturday!
Thank you Christine and Paul Westcott for providing post-run drinks, as well as filling in for me this week! We'll need more for volunteers post-run drinks after next week, so please let me know if you can help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Good luck to all of you who are running the Marine Corps Marathon this Sunday! For those of you who will be there as runners, friends, spectators, or volunteers, DCRRC has partnered again this year with Hope for Warriors! As a DCRRC member, you can access the race via the Charity Village. As a partner, you can leave your gear at their tent and rest easy before the race, enjoying snacks and easy access to porty-potties, and pizza at 11:00! The tent is a convenient walk to the start. Additional details and full info is available on our website at the volunteer page.
If you aren't marathoning this weekend and will be at SLR instead, this week's route is 12 miles to Upton Hill (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). This is an out & back route, so it can easily be shortened to any distance you like by turning around early. If you'd like extra distance, you can add on by going further out along the Custis and W&OD trails after returning from Upton Hill.
Thank you Abbey Gibson for providing post-run drinks over the last few weeks! We'll need more volunteers post-run drinks in just a few weeks, so please let me know if you help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Unfortunately I've been sidelined with a broken foot, so I'm not going to be at SLR for a little while. The posted weekly schedule of routes and volunteers now includes a new (temporary!) column to track who will be filling in for me to lead the runs in my absence, and after a few months of recovery I fully intend and expect to be back at it with you all again!
Happy running,
Mike
