SLR July 13 - Pentagon Army Navy

Hello Saturday Runners!

Our route this week on Saturday, July 13 is the Pentagon - Army Navy (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) loop for 12 miles. If you'd like to add distance, an easy way to do this is with laps of Roosevelt Island on your way back, at just over 1 mile per lap of the island's outer loop. It's going to get up to over 90 deg on Saturday, but with morning temps around 70 and max relative humidity "only" 80%, hopefully we can sneak in a run before the heat gets too bad!

Thank you Will Hernandez for post-run drinks, and Joe Emerson for this week's mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located at about the 6 mile point, along the Four Mile Run Trail on the left side as you're heading East, near the end of Eads St. The next upcoming volunteer need is for mid-run drinks on 7/27, so please let me know if you can help with this or anything else. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.

Also this Saturday on July 13 (later in the afternoon - you can still attend both!), DCRRC will be hosting our annual Track Championships at Dunbar High School on Saturday afternoon & evening. This is a one-of-a-kind event in the DC area, where ALL runners are welcome to join in for FREE to race friends & rivals in a fast track Mile, and then stick around afterward to watch some high level competition! Following the open mile heats will be invitational elite heats in the 800 m, Mile, and 3000 m Steeplechase, where world-class runners will get a last chance to qualify for USATF National Championships on the final stop of the Eastern Track League series. Don't miss this opportunity to likely witness the first sub-4:00 mile run in Washington DC! Full details as well as registration for both runners and volunteers are at the link above.

Happy running,

Mike
