SLR July 6 - Capital Crescent Trail

Hello Saturday Runners!

Happy Fourth of July! This week's route, on Saturday July 6, is an out & back run on the Capital Crescent Trail (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). The scheduled distance is 14 miles, but you can easily modify this run for whatever distance you'd like by turning around at any point. To reach 14 miles, your turnaround point will be just after crossing the River Rd overpass, 7 miles out from the start. I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Big Guy will be covering both the MTP coaching intro as well as SLR.

Thank you Will Hernandez for post-run drinks, and Gary Morgans for this week's mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located about 5 miles out from the start, near the MD/DC line on the Capital Crescent Trail. If you're running 14 miles, you'll pass the drinks again later on, at mile 9 of your run. The full SLR schedule for this summer and early fall is now posted, so please let me know when you can help - the next opening is for mid-run drinks on 7/27.

The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.

Coming up next week on July 13, DCRRC will be hosting our annual Track Championships at Dunbar High School on Saturday afternoon & evening. This is a one-of-a-kind event in the DC area, where ALL runners are welcome to join in for FREE to race friends & rivals in a fast track Mile, and then stick around afterward to watch some high level competition! Following the open mile heats will be invitational elite heats in the 800 m, Mile, and 3000 m Steeplechase, where world-class runners will get a last chance to qualify for USATF National Championships on the final stop of the Eastern Track League series. Don't miss this opportunity to likely witness the first sub-4:00 mile run in Washington DC! Full details as well as registration for both runners and volunteers are at the link above.

Happy running,

Mike
