Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
For tomorrow's run (May the Fourth be with you!), our route will be 13 miles point-to-point to the Vienna Metro (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). This route will take you out the W&OD trail to the Vienna metro station, where you can catch the orange line back to Rosslyn. Don't forget to bring your SmarTrip card! If you'd rather not ride the metro or would prefer a shorter run, you can turn around at any point on the W&OD trail for an out and back run. I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Franco will be introducing and starting the run for you.
The medical respite facility Christ House in Adams Morgan has reached out to DCRRC with the following request looking for donations of athletic or comfortable shoes for men:
Christ House provides patients who are experiencing homelessness and who have medical conditions a new or very gently used pair of comfortable shoes. We are in constant need of comfortable athletic shoes for our patients. Currently, we are down to our last few pairs.
If you have any shoes that you'd be willing to contribute to Christ House, Anne Coia will collect them this Saturday, May 4 and next Saturday, May 11 at SLR.
Thank you Charlotte and Mark Hyatt for post-run drinks this week! We will need more post-run beverage volunteers in May and beyond, as well as mid-run volunteers starting up again after Memorial Day, so please get in touch with me if you can help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route, tomorrow morning on Saturday April 27, will be the 12 mile Bluemont L Loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). For a shorter run, you can cut off 2 miles by skipping the short leg of the L and returning directly from the Custis Trail along Lynn St through Rosslyn, or you can cut off 3 miles by skipping the Bluemont portion and going directly from Fairfax Drive to the Custis Trail by following the 66 on-ramp on the right side of the road. W&OD and Roosevelt Island trails are both a convenient way to add extra mileage if that's what you'd prefer.
Thank you Alex Albertini for post-run drinks this week! We will need more post-run beverage volunteers in May and beyond, as well as mid-run volunteers starting up again after Memorial Day, so please get in touch with me if you can help. Hello Saturday Runners!
After attempting to schedule it last week, the week is take two for the 13 mile DC Sightseer Loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). This week the festival really is over, so no parade or closing ceremonies to contend with. If you'd like to shorten the run you can cut about a mile by skipping the Tidal Basin lap, or to cut another ~2.5 miles beyond that you can return directly over Memorial Bridge after reaching the Lincoln Memorial. I'm still out of town again this weekend, but Andrew will filling in for me again this week.
Thank you Alex Albertini for post-run drinks this week! There are currently no more volunteers on the schedule after next week, so please get in touch with me if you can help. I've now posted the schedule going out through mid-June, including a couple weeks after Memorial Day when we'll start back up with mid-run drinks, so those volunteer opportunities are available too. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
