Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, August 8th, we will be running an out and back on the MaryMount/ Chain Bridge Loop, listed at 14 miles. As written (coming back via Memorial Bridge) its 14 miles, but if you come back early over the Key Bridge this cuts it down to 12 miles. For a 16 mile run, you can run out on the mall past the reflecting pool, turn around after the WWII memorial, and come back on the other side.
Thank you to Kevin Cunningham for covering post-run drinks for the month of August! And a big thanks to Mrs. Big Guy for our mid-run drinks this week! Mid-run drinks are in good shape, but we do need post-run beverages for September (and beyond). Its not a lot of work and the club reimburses your expenses - Please email SLR@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out!
Well folks, the time has finally come to pass the reigns off to a new SLR Leader: Emily Leary Chesnes will be taking things over starting next weekend. Please give her your undivided attention. It has been my pleasure to lead and coordinate the Saturday Long Runs over the past few years. I hope my efforts have made running and training for races easier and more enjoyable, or at least less painful!
Shouldn't be too hot or sunny out, but it will be humid so please take it easy and hit those water fountains (like at Fletchers boat house and in Georgetown) when you can.
Have a great run!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, August 2nd, we will be running an out and back on the Capital Crescent Trail. I put down 18 miles for folks in marathon training, but you can choose your distance and turn around when you like. For turn around options see below:
- 5 miles out: marker 6.5 (Water fountain here at Fletchers)
- 7 miles out: marker 4.5 (River Road)
- 8 miles out: mile marker 3.5. This is at Barnes & Noble. Water fountain just beyond. Then go through Wisconsin Ave. tunnel, then trail becomes gravel.
- 9 miles out: marker 2.5
-10 miles out: marker 1.5
Thank you to Kevin Cunningham for covering post-run drinks! We current do not have mid-run drinks lined up!! If you or someone you know would be willing to help us out, please email SLR@dcroadrunners.org - the club reimburses your expenses. Drinks are looking good for most of summer, though there are still a few Saturday mid-run drink needs left.

Wow! Its alrady August - hope you are enjoying the rather mild DC summer. Have a great run!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, July 26th, we will be running the Arlington Triangle for about 16 miles. Its basically a huge loop, so if you would like less you will have to make it an out-and-back. The intersection with 4 mile run is about 5 miles out, so if you turn around here it will get you a 10 mile run.
Thank you to Kevin Cunningham for covering post-run drinks! Also, Mike Tosto will be helping us refuel mid-way through the run at the usual locatoin. There are also multiple water fountains along this route if you need more hydration. Drinks are looking good for summer, though there are still a few Saturday mid-run drink needs. Please check the SLR webpage for dates and email SLR@dcroadrunners.org to help out!
Remember to pace yourself on this route - the first third is pretty flat, the middle part is a steady uphill climb, and the last section is downhill. Looks like more great summer running weather, partly cloudy with temps in the 70s!
