Club Members & Guests:
1. 2009 Annual Banquet, Elections, and Awards: Our Club's Annual Meeting & Elections are only a month away. There is still an pressing need for nominations to the Nominating Committee for club officers and directors, as well as nominations for the Club annual awards.
As most of you know, this will be my last term as president. The key to success in that position is a strong Board,. which we have had the last several years, and a strong volunteer base, which has grown substantially during the past 3 years. I will have more to say in thanks to the Club at the Banquet, but please consider seriously whether you, or someone you know, might be willing to serve in a position of leadership to support the Club in the next year. See further information below.
The annual awards banquet will take place on Sunday, March 22, at Maggiano's in Washington DC. Cost for ALL attendees will be $15.00 (The Club heavily subsidizes this event, so the fee covers only a portion of the total cost.)
At this event, we will elect a new slate of officers and directors. The nominating committee consists of retiring board members Ian Clements and Kerry O'Brien. If you have nominations, please contact Kerry.
We will also present our annual awards for most outstanding and improved athletes. The awards committee is Ben Richter and Kenny Ames. Please use this email to submit nominations, and please do not be shy about nominating yourself!

3. 10K Training Program: The DC Road Runners Club 10K Training Program starts on Saturday, 2/21/09 at 8 am at the Gotta Run Running Store on 1101 S. Joyce Street #B-12 in Arlington, VA 22202. (That’s in Pentagon Row in South Arlington, just off Army Navy Drive. Parking is in the lot in the rear of the store.) The Program costs $40 for a twelve-week training program, which meets every Saturday morning at 8 am for a long run at varied locations around the DC Metro area.
The first four weeks will meet at Gotta Run, then change locations on a schedule to be announced. Saturday mornings will be devoted to running with a pace-appropriate group, starting at a distance of two to three miles in the beginning, and building up to six to seven miles by the end of the program.
The group long runs should be combined with two or three shorter runs per week, which will be the responsibility of each runner to do on his or her own. Volunteer coaches will attend to each group run. The goal race will the Capitol Hill Classic 10K on Sunday, 5/17/09. In 2008, 9 participants of the Program finished the Capitol Hill Classic 10K. Several Program participants continued their training by signing up for the 10-Mile Training Program in July and ran the Army 10-Miler in the fall.
4. SunTrust National Marathon and Half-Marathon: a. The Club is managing several aspects of race-day logistics. There is a need for personnel to ride with the "SAG Wagons," which patrol the course from start to finish in order to pick up runners who are injured or otherwise incapable of finishing. You will serve as a navigator, not driver. There is a base stipend of $100 for this work. If you are interested, please contact the Club President. b. The Club is also providing on-course timing officials. A stipend of $100 is also available for these positions, which will require you to pick up the timing clock the day before the race, transport it to the designated spot on the course, and be there until the last runner finishes. Please contact the Club president at the above e-mail address if interested. c. Finally, "regular" volunteers are also needed. There is a link to do so on the SunTrust National Marathon website. 5. USAT&F National Indoors Masters Championships: This event, open to all masters runners, will take place March 20-22, 2009, at the Prince George's indoor track complex near the grounds of FedEx Field. Monday and Tuesday Training Runs: Club Members are invited to join members of the training programs for the SunTrust National Marathon for informal training runs on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
