Awards and Nominations

Club Members and Guests, The Annual DCRRC Banquet and Awards Dinner will take place on Sunday, March 21. The banquet will be hosted by Maggiano's Little Italy in the Friendship Heights Section of Washington, DC. Maggiano's is located at 5333 Wisconsin Avenue and is accessible via METRO (Red Line). The Banquet Speaker will be Bill Reifsnyder, a former 2-time United States marathon champion and the current National Marathon Race Director.  Please see the home page of DCRRC for information and to make reservations.  In addition to Awards, the Election of a Board of Directors will take place.

Annual Elections.  Ian Clements and Aaron Cheskis have agreed serve as the Nominating Committee to prepare a slate of officers for the club to be presented at the Annual Meeting in March.  The new Board will take office in May of 2010.  If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors for DC Road Runners please contact either Ian at  ianclem@yahoo.com  or Aaron at aaron@dcroadrunners.org and inquire about potential positions.  Feel free to nominate others that you believe would be an asset to the board as well.  You can check the listing of current positions on the home page under About Us, Club Information, Board Members.  If you are approached about a position please give it serious consideration as the Board is all voluntary and each of us working together is what makes the club successful.   Ian and Aaron are aware of what positions will be vacant in the coming year.

Annual Awards.  Ed Grant and Kerry O’Brien will be searching for nominations for Runner of the Year Male and Female as well as Masters Male and Female Runners for the past year, as well as Most Improved Male and Female and Volunteer of the year for the club.  Awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting.   Please send any names you feel should be considered for these awards to Ed and Kerry at edgrantnj@yahoo.com and raptorkerry@gmail.com .  You are welcome to nominate yourself for any of these awards.  It will be tremendously helpful to Ed and Kerry if you can send documentation as to your nominee’s accomplishments.  Such as race results from previous years against this years results, or why you believe someone has achieved status as outstanding runner.  Previous years runners are listed under About Us – Award Winners.

This winter has proven to be a difficult one to run in, so if you are training for a spring race, please be careful and watch for the icy patches that just do not seem to go away.

DC Road Runners - The BEST!

The worst of Washington weather brought out the Best in DC Road Runners!!

The weather on Saturday could not have been much worse for a long run, but that did not stop many of the club members from venturing out.

The Gar Williams Half Marathon was on Saturday and after a tremendous amount of work by Race Director Gene Fox went off with out a hitch.  There were 150 runners along with 12 volunteers who endured the rain, freezing rain and snow to compete in what proved to be a hugely successful race.  Thanks to all.  Gene shared with me the following comments from some of those who ran:

"Thanks so much for organizing a great race. I am really grateful for all
your hard work. Best wishes Charlie

I just wanted to thank you and all the volunteers for putting on such a
great race today! Thanks so much for coming out and braving the cold and
rain for us. Sarah

Gene, had to say thanks for a terrific job on the race. The organization
was great, trail, mile markers, volunteers, chips, directing traffic, food,
everything. Very enjoyable. Thank you. Allan

Good Job. Good organization. Good spirit. :) Sincerely, George"

The National Marathon and Half Marathon trainees led by Coaches, and Substitute-Coaches also braved the elements and ran their scheduled training run.  Thanks to all of you out there maintaining a positive attitude and encouraging the trainees.  SLR had many of their regulars out as well running the Battery Kemball Route.

Although many of us did not completely warm up for several hours, yesterday, we were out this morning running with Ryan and Sara Hall with a VERY good representation of our Club.

I am so pleased to be part of an organization that displayed such a spirit of cooperation this weekend and always.
