DCRR
Club Members and Guests:
We continue our busy fall schedule of races, workouts, and, as ever, need for volunteers to carry all this off. A brief summary:
1. 20-Miler: First, a tip of the hat to race director Chuck Evans, race coordinators Bob & Delabian Thurston, and all the volunteers who made possible another very successful National Capital 20-Miler on September 24. Despite the humid weather, we had a great turn-out and plenty of support for the runners. Thanks again to all.
2. Rediscovery 10K: Our next race is Sunday, October 1, at West Potomac Park -- the Rediscovery 10K. Please join us to run. We also urgently need volunteers for the finish line. I know there is some "let-down" after a big event like the 20-Miler, but please help if you can. Contact me if you can help.
3. Landon School Cross-Country Meet: On Saturday, October 14, the Club will provide finish line services at an invitational high school cross-country meet at the Landon School in Bethesda. Also, at the close of the high school races, around 5:15, there will be an open 3-Mile event sponsored by DCRRC.
Please consider volunteering for this event. It's a long day, so if you can only come for a portion, that is fine.
4. 10-Mile Training Program: The final Saturday workout in the 10-Mile training program is Saturay morning at 7:30 at the Lincoln Memorial. A brief talk on race day strategy will follow. Good luck to all participants, and many thanks to the coaches who made this program possible, particularly head coach Kristin Blanchat!
5. October Track Workouts: We will be on the track the first two weeks of October, on Wednesdays October 4 and 11. After that, the workouts will switch to Tuesday night for the remainder of October only. Workouts will start at the usual time of 7:15 on Oct 4 and 11; workouts will start at 7:00 on the 17th and 24th.
Enjoy the great running weather that October brings!

Club Members and Guests:
1. 20-Miler Registration is now CLOSED. As announced in the entry form, we are limited by the conditions of our permit to a specified number of runners, and that number has been reached. As a result, entries are now closed. There will be absolutely NO registration on race-day. Entries at packet pick up on September 23 will be limited to those who have communicated a request prior to 10:00 am on September 21, and can verify that request, as well as a response from the Race Director or Club President.
2. 20-Miler Volunteer(s) Needed -- Lead Bike and Trailer: We are in need of a volunteer willing to be the "lead bike" at Sunday's race, as well as someone willing to serve as the "trailer" (on bike or foot) to ensure that we know when the last competitor has crossed the finish line. Please reply to president@dcroadrunners.org if you can serve in either capacity. If you would like to volunteer in other capacities, we can use you!
3. 20-Miler Packet Pick-Up: Will be at Gotta Run at Pentagon Row shopping mall in Arlington, off Army-Navy Drive near Pentagon City, on Saturday 9/23 from 11 to 5. Please take this opportunity to pick up your number and avoid the rush on Sunday morning. Also, take advantage of Gotta Run's generous 15% discount to Club members.
4. 20-Miler Time Limit: If you are entered, please remember that there is a 4-hour time limit for finishing the race. If you feel you cannot accomplish this, please contact an official on Sunday morning to request an early start.
5. Track Workout: We will be on the track this Wednesday, September 27. We will be back on the trail the first two weeks of October, then back on the track the last two weeks of October.
6. Army 10-Miler Restrictions: If you are entered for this race, you probably have received the notice regarding restrictions on heart-rate monitors and self-carried fluids. If not, please check out the race website.
7. Rediscovery 10K: The Club is co-sponsoring this fine, flat, fast 10K on Sunday October 1. Please enter if you want to test yourself on a favorable 10K course. Also, a small number of volunteers are needed for the finish line -- please contact club president if you can help.
Good luck to the 20-Milers and 5-Milers!

Club Members and Guests:
Summer seems to have ended, and it even felt cool out there on the trails on Monday afternoon. We also had perfect running weather for SLR on Saturday, despite the Ernesto threat. Read below for details on our active September ahead.
1. Track Workouts: Wednesday workouts for the remainder of the month will be the TRACK on September 27, and on the TRAIL on September 13 and 20. On the TRACK weeks, we will use our regular start time of 7:15. On the TRAIL weeks, we will leave for the trail at 6:45 sharp, in order to get the workout in before dark. We will do mile repeats on the trail on 9/13, and timed intervals on 9/20. See Track Workouts page for more details.
There has been a large favorable response to also hosting a Tuesday night workout on September 12th and 19th. Thus, we will have workouts on both these nights. Anybody who would like to volunteer to help lead these workouts, please let me know. We will start both nights at 7:00.
2. Board Meeting: The regular bi-monthly meeting of the Board of Directors will take place on Monday, September 11, at 7:00 pm at the Silver Diner in Clarendon. The draft Agenda is posted at the end of this blog. If you have an additional item you would like the Board to discuss, please submit to me by e-mail. Please be specific, so that we know what the item is about. If you would like to attend, and are not already a regular attendee, please also let me know by e-mail so that we can get an accurate head count for the restaurant.
A chief item for discussion at this meeting will be planning for our 2007 Race Calendar. We will also discuss the upcoming major DCRRC races in the fall.
3. 20-Miler (September 24): Volunteers are still needed both for this event, and for the packet pick-up at Gotta Run on September 23rd. You may e-mail me, or volunteer coordinator Delabian Thurston at thurret@aol.com
4. Greenbelt 15K: Thanks to race director Ben Richter, Greenbelt running maven Joe Broderick, and the many volunteers for making this Sunday night event a rousing success. Bad weather held off, and we were treated to some fine performances. Thanks again!
5. Saturday Long Run: Not so long this week, but a challenging 14 Miles on the classic Cathedral + Clintons route. Remember, there is always the option of a shorter, 6-9 mile run for those not up to the long loop.
6. 10-Mile Training Program: Thanks to more favorable weather, our second installment of this training program is getting in a few more miles than last summer's group. The group met recently for a happy hour get-together hosted by "sub-coach" Rachel Bonisteel. Thanks to Rachel -- we had a great time, and thanks for Kristin Blanchat for her continued leadership.
7. September 11 Memorial Run -- Tidal Basin: A commemorative 3K will be run at noon on September 11, along the lines of our informal monthly races on the third Wendesday. (This will not replace the regularly-scheduled September race).
