Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week, on June 25, we will be running an out & back on Rock Creek Park Trail (additional map here) which can easily be as long or as short as you'd like, with a turn-around at half your target distance. If you're just beginning a marathon training plan for the fall, a 10 mile run is this week's recommended distance. With Marine Corps 18 weeks away, this week will be the first co-located meeting of the Marathon Training Program and SLR. The jump-start group has been with us for the past few weeks, but expect to see more runners and more coaches joining us now as the training program itself gets underway.
Many thanks to Paul & Christine Westcott for all of our post-run drinks over the past month! Please also thank Miguel Cuya for this week's mid-run beverage station, which you should be able to hit in both directions on Rock Creek Park Trail if you'd like. Plenty of volunteer slots this summer still need to be filled, including mid-run drinks next week, so please let me know how you can help.
Up-to-date future volunteer needs and a route schedule are always posted on our web page, and you can email me to schedule your slot. For mid-run beverages, any week you're able to volunteer is appreciated, but for post-run beverages it's best if you can cover two (or more!) consecutive weeks at a time, to cut down on hand-offs of the bins. If you enjoy or benefit from the entirely volunteer-supported beverages at our runs, please do your part - it's easy, and you'll be reimbursed for all expenses.
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
The route for this week's run, on Saturday June 18, will be Bluemont L-Loop (map here) for 12 miles. This run can easily be extended on either the W&OD or Mt. Vernon Trail, for as much extra distance as you could want. For a shorter run of about 10 miles, head directly back to the SLR meeting point through Rosslyn and Lynn St. rather than running the short leg of the "L" out to Memorial Bridge.
Once again I will be out of town this week, but Dan Lesmez will again start off the run for me on Saturday morning.
Thank you to Paul & Christine Westcott for post-run drinks! We are still in need of mid-run drink volunteers, to help with your hydration in the warmer weather. Since all of our SLR beverages are volunteer-provided, mid-run drinks will not resume until we get volunteers - so let me know when you can help! More post-run volunteers will soon be needed too. A full route schedule from now until the Marine Corps Marathon is now posted on the website, so there are plenty of slots to fill.

Hello Saturday Runners!
On Saturday, June 11, our long run route will be GWK Shady (additional map here) for 10.5 miles. There are lots of trails on this route, to help keep you shaded on what looks to be a warm day tomorrow. On the Wesley Heights trail (connecting G-A and B-K trails), which we don't take very often on SLR, remember to follow the yellow blazes to stay on course. For more mileage you can do a second loop of the Glover-Archbold / Wesley Heights / Battery-Kemble trails, which would bring total distance up to about 17.5 miles. For a shorter add-on, or go any other distance less than 10.5 miles, I would suggest out & back mileage on the C&O Towpath.
I'm going to be out of town this week, but Dan Lesmez will be starting off the run for me tomorrow morning.
Thank you to Paul & Christine Westcott for post-run drinks, and to Jenn Barton for mid-run drinks! We are still in need of mid-run drink volunteers, to help with your hydration in the warmer weather. Since all of our SLR beverages are volunteer-based, mid-run drinks won't continue until we get volunteers - so let me know when you can help!
