SLR News!

Saturday Runners,

In advance of this week's regularly scheduled route update, I wanted to send out some news about our upcoming plans for SLR. As some of you have probably already heard, we're planning to use a co-located start for the Marathon Training Program (targeting Marine Corps) and SLR group runs over the summer months. If you've been running with us a for a few years, you'll remember that we used to do it this way, and so we're going to give it a try again. Hopefully this will help create more crossover between the two groups, and encourage our trainees to transition into becoming year-round regulars at other group runs and club events. The training program will also be formatted differently this year, with program fees waived for all current club members, provided you meet a volunteer requirement. For more details, you can check out the training section of our website, or get in touch with our new Director of Training Programs, Kathy Pugh.

Getting down to the details, our plan is for trainees to meet at the same place we use on Saturday mornings, 15 minutes before the SLR start time, where coaches will go over their adivice for the week. At the top of the hour, we'll do the same route introduction and general announcements that you're used to hearing at SLR, and then the run will begin, with a range of pace groups leading the way.

The start date for the main Marathon Training Program will be June 25, which is 18 weeks out from MCM, but starting this Saturday, May 21, a jump-start group will be joining us, to help trainees build their base with medium length runs. Please help me welcome any and all newcomers to Saturday Long Runs!

Happy running!
