Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
On Saturday, July 16, we will be running the RFK route (additional map here) for about 12 miles. Please skip the loop around RFK itself (which is listed in the online cue sheet, but not the one you'll receive on Saturday morning), as this road is not safe for running. This route is essentially out & back, so you can shorten it by turning around early at any point. For a longer run of 16 miles, head south at 15th St (Wallenburg Pl.) near the Washington Monument, and run a lap around Hains Point back up to the Lincoln Memorial before heading back to the start.
Once again the weather will be hot, with temperatures reaching the 80s by 9:00 am and peaking in the 90s on Saturday. Please make sure to carry extra fluids, run at a slower pace than usual, and watch out for your fellow runners who can sometimes be in more distress than they themselves realize.
Please thank Eric Pico for our post-run drinks, and Gary Morgans for our mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located in Lincoln Park this week. We're in pretty good shape for post-run drinks (though a few slots still need to be filled), but we need mid-run drink volunteers starting next week. Email me any time to schedule your volunteer dates!
Up-to-date future volunteer needs and a route schedule are always posted on our web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. For mid-run beverages, any week you're able to volunteer is appreciated, but for post-run beverages it's best if you can cover two (or more!) consecutive weeks at a time, to cut down on hand-offs of the bins. If you enjoy or benefit from the entirely volunteer-supported beverages at our runs, please do your part - it's easy, and you'll be reimbursed for all expenses.
I'm unfortunately not going to be able to make it to SLR for the next few weeks due to travel plans, but I'm leaving you in the enthusiastic and capable hands of Coach Kathy, our director of the Marathon Training Program!
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
Our route on July 9 will be out & back on the Capital Crescent Trail (additional map here), for a recommended distance of 14 miles. You can easily lengthen or shorten this route by simply turning around whenever you've reached half of your desired distance. For a landmark, the water fountain 5 miles out from the start point is at mile marker 6.5 on the CCT, and this is also where our mid-run beverage station will be located this week.
As I'm sure you all know, the weather has been and will be hot, with temperatures reaching the 80s by 9:00 am and peaking in the mid 90s on Saturday. Please make sure to carry extra fluids, run at a slower pace than usual, and watch out for your fellow runners who can sometimes be in more distress than they themselves realize.

Please thank Eunja Rau for our post-run drinks, and Gary Morgans for our mid-run drinks! We will need more mid-run volunteers after next week, so please get in touch with me if you can help - this can count towards your volunteer credit for either the Bunion Derby or the Marathon Training Program.

Hello Saturday Runners!
On July 2 we will be running the Pentagon - Army Navy route (additional map here) for 12 miles. If you'd like to lengthen the route, you can either run a lap or two (about 1.25 miles each) of Roosevelt Island on your way back, or add as much mileage as you need on the Mt. Vernon Trail. For a slightly shorter run, you can head directly back toward Iwo Jima from Memorial Bridge rather than going via Rosslyn, which will be about one mile less.
Please thank this week Enjua Rau for our post-run drinks, and Clara Lau for our mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks should be on the Four Mile Run Trail near the end of Eads St., and note also that there is a brand-new recently opened water fountain on the Mt. Vernon Trail near the airport which you can use as well.
