Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Saturday on November 23, our route will be the 14 mile loop Glover - Soapstone - Rock Creek (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). We have a little bit of rain in the forecast on Friday midday, and then some more Saturday afternoon, but hopefully things will remian dry enough on Saturday morning to run the trails on this route. The lower entrance to the Glover - Archbold trail is probably still closed, so if so you can enter the trail by going up Foxhall Rd to take a right on 44th St NW, and then a right on P St NW, which will end at an entrance to the trail.
Thank you Eiko Sato for our post-run drinks this week! The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up to date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Coming up next week, DCRR and the Del Rey Business Association will be holding the 44th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, at 9:00 am. This five mile race is one of our club's biggest events of the year, so start your turkey early on Thanksgiving morning and then head over to George Washington Middle School in Del Rey to either run or volunteer. As the region's premier Turkey Trot, the totally flat course will be equally friendly to elite level competition, PR chasing, strollers, families, dogs, and costumes! For more info and registration, please go to alexandriaturkeytrot.com.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route, on November 16, will be the 12 mile Water Route (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). You can cut about a mile off of this route by skipping the lap of the Tidal Basin, or to further reduce down to 8 miles you can both skip the Tidal Basin and run only part of the way down Hains Point to cut across at Buckeye Drive. To add distance, this route goes past any number of trail options such as Custis, C&O Towpath, Capital Crescent, Mt. Vernon, or the National Mall. I'm once again out of town this week (I'll be back next week!), so Megan will be there in my place to start the run on Saturday.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route, on November 9, will be 12 miles to RFK Stadium and back (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). Since this route is essentially an out & back, if you'd like to shorten the run you can simply turn around sooner, before you get to RFK and head back to the SLR meeting point. To extend the run you have any number of options from the downtown DC area, but one option is to add 4 miles by tacking on Hains Point. To do this, take a left just before the Washington Monument on your way back and head down past the Tidal Basin and left onto Ohio Drive, and then after rounding the point and heading North along the river, rejoin the planned route at the Lincoln Memorial where you can cross the bridge back to VA. I'm out of town again this week, but Megan will be there in my place to get things going on Saturday morning.
