Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

This Sat, Jan 12th, we will be running the RFK Loop route, listed at 12.5 miles. Check the cue sheet for clarification.
Please thank Miguel Cuya for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
In club news, there is going to be another FUN Happy Hour next Friday from 6-9pm at The Liberty Tavern in Clarendon, check the DCRR Club Homepage for full info. Also, the 2013 JFK20k and MLK5k are going on January 19th and I'm sure they could still use volunteers.
If you want a little less miles just turn around early - turning around in Lincoln Park (before you have reached RFK) will get you about a 9.5 Mile Run.
If you need more miles you can connect with the Mt. Vernon trail north and loop around Roosevelt Island, then come back through Rosslyn. This would add about 2 miles. Each loops is 1.25 miles so you can do more loops as desired.
Break out those t-shirts and singlets for some unseasonably warm weather this weekend!

This Sat, Jan 5th, we will be running the 4 Mile Run park to Pentagon route, listed at 11 miles. Check the cue sheet for clarification. I hope you have been enjoying these shorter long runs in the past few weeks. Starting next week we will begin creeping the mileage back up as many of us prepare for our spring marathons.
Please thank Miguel Cuya for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
If you need MORE miles you know the drill! Continue on Mt. Vernon and come back through Rosslyn for around 1.5 extra miles, do the "bridge to bridge" run (~4 extra), or run down to the Capital Building and back (~6 extra).
Its a pretty flat route so its a good one for tempo's or race pacing - might want to wear sunglasses or a hat, I seem to remember having the sun in my face a lot. Stay Warm!

This Sat, Dec. 29th, we will be running the Normanstone Hill Klingle Route. The listed route mileage is 13 miles. Please check the cue sheet and map for clarification.
Please thank Miguel Cuya for our post-run drinks! We could always use more drink volunteers for the Winter and Spring months - email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you would like to help out.
Mileage Options:
11: Cuts off big top of loop by taking Cleveland Ave NW back early. After mile 6.0, after you turn right on 34th Street, run a few blocks and then take a right on Cleveland Ave NW. At about 6.75 miles veer left, staying on Cleveland Ave, street becomes Calvert St. NW. Soon take a right on Shoreham Drive NW down to re-join Rock Creek Trail going south, right on trail to head back to Memorial Bridge, return to Iwo Jima area from there.
13: Do route exactly as written in cue sheet, taking Rock Creek trails back to Memorial bridge the first time.
17: Do route as written but do a 2nd loop by taking the dirt/gravel trail now on your right, up Normanstone Hill, down Klingle, and then take Rock Creek trails back to Memorial Bridge.
Happy Running! Its getting cold out there so dress warm (but not too warm).
