SLR Apr 7 - Four Mile Run Park to Pentagon

Hello Saturday Runners!

This Sat, April 7th, we will be running the Four Mile Run Park to Pentagon route.

Please thank Rick DeSaussure for our post-run beverages.  We currently do not have anyone on deck for May (or beyond), so please consider volunteering.  Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses.  Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.

Directions: From Iwo Jima follow bike path toward Memorial Bridge.  From Memorial Bridge follow Mt.Vernon trail south, past airport, to Four Mile Run Trail (Under pass after the Airport, 5 miles out).  After underpass take u-turn up ramp to Rt 1, turn right onto Rt1, cross bridge, turn right onto 4 Mile Run Park.  Turn right at Mt. Vernon Avenue, cross over 4 mile run bike path, turn right onto 4 mile run bike path back towards Mt. Vernon trail.  Just before underpass to Mt. Vernon Trail, turn left onto S. Eads.  Turn Left onto Army-Navy Drive.  Take tunnel on right to Pentagon.  Go on left side on Pentagon to Bike Path.  Take back to traffic circle, go back to Iwo Jima for 11 miles.

7 Mile Loop:  there is a great little cut-through and pedestrian bridge from Mt. Vernon trail to the Pentagon.  About a quarter mile before the 14th Street Bridge, veer left off Mt. Vernon trail to curl around and then pass under GW Parkway through Pedestrian Tunnel.  This leads to the Columbia Island Marina.  Run through the parking lot, stay on trail that goes through some trees and find a pedestrian bridge on left across the water to the Pentagon North lot area.  Run south on sidewalks and path adjacent to Boundary Channel Drive until you are able to cut through the Pentagon South Lots.  Cut through and take bike path by Washington Blvd. North to Memorial Bridge and Iwo Jima.

For an extra mile:  continue to Roosevelt Island and return through Rosslyn.  Do loops around Roosevelt Island to add even more.

Looks like more great running weather!  Might want to bring a hat or sunglasses, its supposed to be sunny and clear out and I recall having the sun in my eyes a lot on this route.
