SLR Mar 3 - RFK Loop

Hello Saturday Runners!

This Sat, March 3rd, we will be running the RFK Loop route.  Check out the map-my-run map for clarification.  Mileage options are provided after the directions.

Thank you to Janet Braunstein for our post-run beverages.  As always, we need drink volunteers for the coming months.  Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses you.  We try to have people do a month at a time – email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.

Directions: From Iwo Jima, take Memorial Bridge into DC, pass by the left of the Lincoln Memorial.  Run along service road next to Constitution Ave.  After the Capital, turn right onto 1st St. then turn left on East Capital St.  Run in the bike lane to RFK.  Loop around RFK clockwise, watching for cars and take East Capital St. back to 1st St.  Turn left on 1st St.  Turn right, go past Capital towards the Mall.  Run past left side of Washington Monument, past left side of Lincoln to Memorial Bridge, Finish at Iwo Jima (that’s 13 miles, see options for 14 mile route).  There are bathrooms/ water under the Lincoln Memorial and in the little house behind the Washington Monument.

Approx. Mileage Options:

  • 8: Loop around the Capital and continue back for about 8 miles (don’t run down to RFK)
  • 14: For an extra mile, after crossing Potomac River, take Mt. Vernon trail North, past Roosevelt Island, run through Rosslyn to return
  • 16: Normal route, but after Lincoln take Rock Creek Trail to G’town, take C&O trail, then cross key bridge and Rosslyn to return

Looks like temps in the high 40s – Have a great run!
