2021 DCRRC Fort Hunt 10K

Registration is closed for this event

Please join us for the 2021 presentation of the Fort Hunt 10K, which, in past and future years, has been/will be the last race of our eight-race winter Snowball Series.

New and Special for 2021. Because we are just beginning to emerge from the pandemic, this race will have some special considerations, for which we request your understanding and cooperation:

  • Minimal amenities.
  • No awards or award ceremony.
  • COVID-19 related restrictions:
    • If you're not feeling well, stay home, don't come. Spread the love, not the virus.
    • Bring a mask and keep it with you at all times. Wear the mask before the race and for the first minute after the start, until after you've made the right turn from the start area onto the perimeter road and the pack has spread out. Once you're running at least six feet from other runners, you may remove your mask. Put your mask back on if you're running in close proximity to other runners. Put your mask back on if you use the water stop. Keep your mask on if you're running together with a group of friends. Put your mask back on after you've crossed the finish line. (In other words: keep your mask on at all times except when you're actually running solo.)
    • If we have post-race refreshments, follow this rule: if you touch it, take it.
    • Don't congregate before or after the race.

Race Directors: JIll Burnie and Ben Richter

If you signed up for the race and can no longer run please email races@dcroadrunners.org to inform us of your cancellation.  There will be no refund for canceling but you will open up a spot for a fellow runner.

If you would like information about our club membership and the many benefits go to our membership page.

Refund Policy:  We have a strict no refund, no transfer and no deferral policy on all of our low key races.  However, in the event we are forced to cancel this race due to weather or other unforeseen events we will make every attempt to reschedule this race on another date.  In this event, your registration would automatically carry over to the new date.  If you are unable to run this new date or we are unable to find a new date for the race we will grant you free entry into another of our low key races in which room is available.

Volunteers: We always need additional help in putting on these races. Please sign up here, if you (or a family member who is accompanying you to the race) can assist.

Timing:  This race is timed using the Chronotrack timing system.

Awards: There will be no awards for this race.

Stroller and Dog Policy:  This race is held on a fairly broad road that runners will share with non-running pedestrians and motor vehicles. If you run with a stroller, please be courteous, start near the back of the pack (the race is chip-timed, after all) and yield to runners and vehicles. If you run with a pet, keep the leash short.

Headphone Policy:  The use of headphones is strongly discouraged at all DCRR Club races.

Daylight Savings Time alert!  Daylight savings time begins early this morning.  Be sure to "spring forward" your clocks an hour before you turn in on Saturday, or you'll miss the race start!

Course Description: The Fort Hunt 10K course consists of 5+ laps around the paved perimeter road of Fort Hunt Park. There are no big hills on the course, but each lap does have some little ups and downs. The redundant nature of the course has some benefits: FIVE water stops (actually one water stop that is passed five times), and the opportunity for spectators to stay in one place and cheer for their favorite competitors as they pass by multiple times!

NPS Race Rules:  These races take place in the National Park Service's jurisdiction.  Please familiarize yourself and comply with our NPS Race Rules.

Directions: Fort Hunt Park is located approximately 6 miles south of Old Town Alexandria in Virginia along the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
From downtown Washington, DC: take 14th Street Bridge south towards Virginia. Take exit for Mount Vernon/National Airport; this puts you on the George Washington Memorial Parkway southbound; continue past National Airport, through Old Town Alexandria (for two miles, the Parkway becomes Washington Street through Old Town; when, you reach the city limits, you are back on the Parkway); Fort Hunt Park is 6 miles south of Old Town Alexandria; exit to the right at the sign marked "Fort Hunt Road/Fort Hunt Park."
