The worst of Washington weather brought out the Best in DC Road Runners!!
The weather on Saturday could not have been much worse for a long run, but that did not stop many of the club members from venturing out.
The Gar Williams Half Marathon was on Saturday and after a tremendous amount of work by Race Director Gene Fox went off with out a hitch. There were 150 runners along with 12 volunteers who endured the rain, freezing rain and snow to compete in what proved to be a hugely successful race. Thanks to all. Gene shared with me the following comments from some of those who ran:
"Thanks so much for organizing a great race. I am really grateful for all
your hard work. Best wishes Charlie
I just wanted to thank you and all the volunteers for putting on such a
great race today! Thanks so much for coming out and braving the cold and
rain for us. Sarah
Gene, had to say thanks for a terrific job on the race. The organization
was great, trail, mile markers, volunteers, chips, directing traffic, food,
everything. Very enjoyable. Thank you. Allan
Good Job. Good organization. Good spirit. :) Sincerely, George"
The National Marathon and Half Marathon trainees led by Coaches, and Substitute-Coaches also braved the elements and ran their scheduled training run. Thanks to all of you out there maintaining a positive attitude and encouraging the trainees. SLR had many of their regulars out as well running the Battery Kemball Route.
Although many of us did not completely warm up for several hours, yesterday, we were out this morning running with Ryan and Sara Hall with a VERY good representation of our Club.
I am so pleased to be part of an organization that displayed such a spirit of cooperation this weekend and always.
