Saturday July 4th is the Age-Handicapped 4-Miler starting at 8 a.m. at Carderock in MD, a Bunion Derby race. This race along the soft surface of the C&O Canal Towpath features 20 different starting times based on age adjustments, with older & wiser runners starting before runners who have much less experience in life. Contact RD Ian Clements, 703-838-2026, if you can help out with this race.
Also at 8 a.m. on July 4th is the last meeting at Gotta Run in South Arlington for the Jump Start prequel to the Army Ten-Miler Training Program, which DCRRC is the exclusive partner for. The Program officially starts on July 11th with a run of 3 miles at Gotta Run and also at the Georgetown Running Company, but the free four-week Jump Start prequel will enable committed persons new to running to be able to start the Program along with other runners. Everyone is welcome at this last Jump Start event, where we’ll go 3 miles after warmups. Over 100 persons have signed up online at this website for the Program. You can too!
On Monday July 6th at 7 p.m. the DCRRC Board will meet at the Silver Diner in Clarendon for club business. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The club has added a regular Tuesday evening run option to its battery of programs. An outgrowth of the training programs, this free Tuesday night Beer & Burritos Run of slightly more than four miles leaves at 7:15 p.m. from Rosslyn every Tuesday and runs over the Memorial Bridge into the District, up to Key Bridge and back into Rosslyn, where interested epicures can sample the cerveza and beans at the local Chipotle. The run has a its own webpage, complete with directions and late-breaking developments, on this website under Weekly Runs.
The club is the owner of a new van, a white 2008 Chevy Express Van. This vehicle is considerably larger than the one it replaced, and anyone using it should be aware of this fact and take great care in driving it around corners and in tight spaces.
