The 2009-2010 budget was passed at the Board meeting last Monday, and Kristin Dahling was selected as the next SLR Director. Kristin was Co-Director of the Marathon Training Program (MTP) last year along with club VP Ben Richter, and co-directs it again this year with Alex Barrage. The MTP is now accepting sign-ups, with the MCM as its target race.
Also accepting sign-ups are the club's Ten-Mile Training Program, the exclusive training program for the Army Ten-Mile race, starting on July 11th (a "jump-start" portion of the training starts on June 13th for persons new to running), and the club’s National Capital 20 Mile/5Mile race on September 27th. More information on these events is available elsewhere on this webpage.
The club’s 10K Group Training Program came to a successful conclusion with the running of its target race, the Capital Hill Classic 10K. Several participants finished the race, many in under one hour.
On Tuesday evening at 7 pm, May 19th, the club’s 1-Hour Track Run will be held in Alexandria. If you’re not circling the track at that hour, the Race Director needs volunteers to help with the event.
On next Tuesday, May 19 DCRRC is hosting the Virginia RRCA State Championship One Hour Track Run at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, 1000 St. Stephen's Road, Alexandria VA. The purpose of this event is to see how far you can run in exactly one hour. Unlike most races where the superstars leave you behind at the start and you don't see them until after the finish, you can keep an eye on each other, because you will all be running around the same track. The world record for 1 hour is held by Haile Gebrselassie of 21.285 K. The DCRRC record is 11 miles set by Glen Mays in 2003. We don't expect you to break that record, but if you can cover 10 miles within the hour, you can join the prestigious 10 Mile Club and get a special award.
We will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you can't run, please volunteer (we need lap counters) by contacting bob@racepacket.com
