January Board Meeting and Races; GWB Marathon

Members & Guests:

Board Meeting: Our regularly-scheduled Board meeting will take place January 14, 7:00 pm, at the Silver Diner in Clarendon. All are welcome. On the agenda: 2007 Runners of the Year awards; nominating committee for 2008-2009 officers and board; cooperative agreement with RRCA national office to sponsor a student internship.

NEXT RACE: JFK20K/MLK5K: Saturday January 19th, 9:00 am, at foot of the Capital Crescent Trail on K Street/Water Street in Georgetown (below Whitehurst Freeway). There is lot parking available in the neighborhood, as well as 4-hour meters on K Street itself. 2-hour parking limits are in place elsewhere in Georgetown. Consider car-pooling or taking Metro to either Rosslyn or Foggy Bottom Stations.

National Marathon Training Programs: These programs, sponsored by Reebok, are still open for registrants. See the previous blog, which you can access through thbe archive link below, for details.

Al Lewis 10-Miler: Another successful event under the RD leadership of Aaron & Sharone Cheskis. Congrats to all who completed this tough course on a perfect day.

Track Workouts Resume: Track Workouts resume in full January 9 at Wasihngton-Lee. Details on the Track Workouts page. Workouts have been posted through the end of March.

NOTE: DATE CORRECTION TO RACE CALENDAR! The Capital Hospice/Custis Trail 12K will be run on Satruday February 9th, not February 2nd, as mistakenly posted in Race Calendar.

Indoor Track Meets: Our next indoor track meet will take place January 6 and 20 at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center in South Arlington. Details on our Race Schedule page. Events from 55-Meter to 3000M.

Snowball Series: The Al Lewis 10-Miler is #3 in the Series. Note that the GWB Marathon in February is a Snowball Series race (#6), so those running the marathon as a Series race will have the opportunity to finish 4 other races before running the marathon.

Championship Series: The Al Lewis 10-Miler was the first race in our inaugural Championship Series, a year long series of race covering every distance from 1 mile to the Marathon. Next race in his series is the JFK 20K on January 19th, followed by the GWB Marathon on February 17th. Volunteer Requirement: Since this is a year-long series, we ask that those who wish to be eligible for awards volunteer at TWO events during the course of 2008. Your volunteer efforts to fill the requirements for Snowball Series and Bunion Derby prizes WILL count toward meeting this requirement.

GWB Marathon and Marathon RelayUpcoming/Runners & Volunteers Needed: The GWB Marathon and Marathon Relay are coming soon: February 17, 2008. Please consider running the race (which is both a Snowball Series and Championship Series event. The other running option is to form a 3-member team and compete in the Marathon Relay. Finally, volunteers aplenty are needed for this event. The race director is Pat Brown.

Run strong,

Ed
