Weekly Update

Club Members:

Previous blog should be available below or in Archive.

Please see the new "Forum" section of the website (bottom button on left side of this Home Page) to comment on current Club developments and follow Club news. What follows here replicates the president's e-mail sent this afternoon.

Club Members:

A brief summary and update:

1. The next Club-managed race is Saturday, May 6, at 8:00, and Carl Sandburg Junior High School near Mount Vernon -- the Pantherlon 5K. We would use a couple more volunteers for the finish line. If you are available, please let me know at president@dcroadrunners.org Check website for more race details.

2. The next Club-sponsored race is the 1-Hour track run, Thursday May 11 at W-L High School. If you can volunteer, please let us know.

3. The W-L track is again closed to us on Wednesday May 10. There will be an alternate trail workout. See "Forum" postings under "Track Workout" for details.

4. The Club's next Board Meeting is Monday May 8 at 7:00. Location is Silver Diner is Clarendon. See President's Blog on home page of the website for further information. Agenda items will include:

a. Raising basic annual dues (individual) to $20.00, effective July 1, 2006.

b. Contingent on item (a), making all low-key Club races free to all members.

c. Revising manner in which we contract for and conduct "race management" services for outside races.

d. Locating storage and parking space for van and excess Club equipment.

e. Entering into arrangements for Gotta Run (Pentagon Row) and perhaps Pacers to sell Club merchandise (currently stored in a member's closet).

f. Establishing monthly "Stride Clinics" at Sport & Health Club in Skyline Center.

g. Adverse weather policy for Bunion Derby and other summer races.

Because the agenda is so packed, we will dispense with the usual reading of reports. Club activity reports will be made on a continuing basis on the website, and those with questions on those activities can raise them at the meeting, or through the response mechanisms (president's email, Forum page on website) that are currently available.

5. The Club also will have a brief All-Members Meeting after the June 21st Hugh Jascourt race.

6. Unless otherwise announced, future Board meetings will occur every two months (May-July-September-November, etc.) on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 pm.

7. Looking back, thanks to Joe Racine, Amadie Hart, and Ricky [pardon me, do not have last name available!] for their last-minute help with the Red Raider 5K on Saturday April 29. Also, thanks to Kristin Blanchat, her 10K coaches, and the fine folks at Skyline Sport and Health for supporting our Stride Clinic for the 10K training program on Sunday April 30. A great success!

8. Finally, the Lawyers Have Heart directors have asked us to provide some volunteers for their race on Saturday June 10. In return, I have asked them to provide a $2.00 discount for DCRRC members who register for the race prior to June 1. IF you wish to take advantage of this offer, you must send your entry form and payment directly to Patty Burke at the American Heart Association. I do NOT have Ms. Burke's address at present -- watch the Home Page for a special link that will provide you a downloadable entry blank and address to send it to.

If you wish to support DCRRC and LHH by volunteering for the race, please contact me by email.

All for now. Enjoy the beautiful weather, and love your runs.
