Weekend Update

Club Members:

The Spring/Summer Racing Season is getting into full swing. Good luck to all as you prepare and race. A few notable items to keep in mind:

1. We are now "back on the track" at Washington-Lee for Wednesday Night Track Workouts. The Track Workouts page has been fully re-vamped with new postings and information. Please check it out. Workouts for the remainder of May are posted; workouts for June through September have been drafted, and are being reviewed by our Marathon Training Program coach and incoming SLR director, as we endeavor to coordinate our overall training efforts. They will be posted by next week.

2. SLR regulars have one more week to "sleep in" before we inaugurate the 7:00 am start time on Saturday May 27. Non-regulars who want to get started on a new long run training cycle should know that now is the perfect time, before the truly beastly weather is upon us. Runs average about 12-14 miles over the next couple of weeks, then go back to 10 Miles on June 10 for start of the Marathon Training Program. So, nothing too long for a while -- a good chance to get in and start out gradually.

3. The Bunion Derby starts in one month, on June 21st. Remember that this series is made posible only by the efforts of those who volunteer to direct and support these races. If you are competing this year, please schedule one race in the series as a "night off" from competition, and instead volunteer to assist the race director. We have many needs: timers, scorers, water stop managers, and even bikers to lead out the pack, as well as to keep track of the "trail pack" so we know when all runners have finished. I will have more to say on this as the races approach. Please, don't wait to be asked to volunteer -- let us know up front which race(s) you can work, and what you would like to do.

4. DCRRC Racing Teams: Teams are now forming for races from Rockville Twilight through Marine Corps Marathon, under the direction of Aaron Cheksis. A new page will appear on the website shortly with details.

5. Weekend Events: Saturday: Triple Crown races, 8:30, Fort Hunt Park. Sunday: Mark's Azalea Run 5K, 8:00 am, Landon School, Bethesda.

As always, click on Archive below for recent postings.

Run well,

Ed
