Track Not Available October 18; Other News

Club Members and Guests --

We have just been informed that due to a field hockey tournament, the track will not be available to us tonight, Wednesday October 18. We will have a workout on the trail, most likely repeat 800s going back and forth between the 1.5 and 1.0 mile markers, where trail is lit. I will be there at 6:45.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

4. The Bunion Derby Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, October 30th, at Generous George's on Duke Street (just east of the intersection of Duke and Quaker Lane) in Alexandria. Starting time is 7:00 pm. Please email Toni Diegoli if you plan to attend: tmdiegoli@hotmail.com

5. The YMCA Trick or Trot 5K will be held on SATURDAY October 28th, the day before MCM, at the Arlington Y. A small number of volunteers is needed to help with the finish line. Please let me know if you can help.

6. Thanksgiving Day 5-Miler: This is the Club's biggest race, and biggest revenue-producer, of the year! Volunteers are urgently needed to staff the finish line. Please contact Assistant Race Director Susan Hage at HageS@usa.redcross.org if you can help. Race is at 10:00 am starting at the Cora Kelley Scholl in the Del Ray section of Alexandria.

Please note that the Snowball Series will include a requirement of volunteering at a Club race in order to be eligible for an age-group award. Volunteering at the Turkey Trot will satisfy this requirement for the 2005-2006 Snowball Series.

Enjoy the great running weather that October brings!

10/14: Upcoming Races & Bunion Derby Banquet

Club Members and Guests:

1. Don't forget the Predicted Time 5-Miler on Saturday, 10/14 at 9:00 at Fletcher's Boat House. Predict your time before you run, then run sans wristwatch and see how close you come. Winner is he/she with closest time to prediction. I'm told that pies go to the winners!

2. October Track Workouts: We will be on the track on WEDNESDAYS October 18 and 25. The track is open to us on those evenings. Thus, we will NOT be moving the workouts to Tuesday nights. Please spread the word.

Workout for October 18 will be 800M repeats at 5K pace, number and intensity dependent on your personal race schedule. Workout for October 25 will be 400M repeats at 10K pace with 100M rest.

3. Landon School Cross-Country Meet: Also on Saturday, October 14, the Club will provide finish line services at an invitational high school cross-country meet at the Landon School in Bethesda. The Open 3-Mile X-C race will be held at 12:30, not 5:15 as previously indicated. Please consider volunteering for this event. It's a long day, so if you can only come for a portion, that is fine.
