SLR Cold Weather - January 6

SLR Runners,

We are still planning to hold tomorrow morning's Arlington Triangle run as scheduled, since surface conditions on the Mt Vernon, W&OD, and Custis trails are expected to be generally runnable. Consistently cold weather means less melt and re-freeze to form black ice, but it also means that temperatures will be beyond what most of us are used to around here. The current forecast for the morning is 8 deg F, with wind chill down to -7 deg F. Be sure to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, wear a warm hat, and use gloves or mittens with liners. Please remember that safety is the first priority, and act on possible early warnings of frostbite or hypothermia at any point during what for some of you will be more than 2.5 hours outdoors. If necessary you can head back early using the Metro (National Airport, East Falls Church, Ballston), a taxi, or Uber/Lyft, or duck indoors for a few minutes at any business for some relief.

Stay warm,

Mike
