Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Tomorrow's run on Saturday, April 29, will be an out and back route to Upton Hill (additional map here) for 12 miles. If you'd like additional distance, you can go further out on the Custis and W&OD trails after coming back from Upton Hill and before returning to the start. For less than 12 miles, you can run the planned route and simply turn around sooner, but then you'd miss all the fun of running up the big hill at the end!
I'll be out of town this weekend, but your club president Rich Mendelowitz will introduce the run and get things started for you on Saturday morning.
We do not currently have a post-run drinks volunteer, so the usual SLR beverages will not be provided this week. Without volunteers to fill the schedule (which is still mostly empty), SLR post-run and/or mid-run drinks will not restart! We also have a hot day in store this Saturday, so this is a particularly good time to remind everyone of hot weather running precautions. Make sure you're aware of your hydration level, and are on the lookout for potential warning signs of heat-related illness. I strongly recommend carrying your own fluids on long runs, even though this week's route will have at least 2 water fountains that you'll pass in each direction (no guarantees they're working). If you or your running friends show symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, chills, or you stop sweating, you should stop running! Your health is never worth one workout. For more tips on hot weather running, take a look at this list put together by the RRCA.
Please remember that starting in June we'll be looking for volunteers to cover mid-run drinks as well as post-run drinks, to help get us through the hot summer months. Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. Post-run volunteers are typically scheduled for at least 2 consecutive weeks to cut down on handoffs of the bins, while mid-run drinks can be booked on a week by week basis. SLR drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this perk, do your part to keep it going! Volunteering is easy, doesn't take a lot of time, and all restocking expenses will be reimbursed by the club.
Previously advertised plans for the lululemon #morethanmiles truck for this Saturday have changed. Unfortunately, it will no longer be located at the SLR meeting point. It will still be accessible, but at the Clarendon lululemon store starting at 9:30 AM. Address is The Market Common, Clarendon, 2847 Clarendon Blvd #150, Arlington, VA 22201. Sorry about this, but it was out of our control. Still a great opportunity and relatively close to our SLR start/finish, so go check it out!
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route on April 22nd will be the ever-popular Marymount Chain Bridge loop (additional map here) for 14 miles, with easy modifications possible to make it either 12 or 10 miles if you'd like. For 12 miles, run the route as written, but return directly over the Key Bridge rather than going down to Memorial Bridge. For 10 miles, in addition to returning over the Key Bridge, continue straight on Military Road to Old Glebe Rd, rather than turning left into Zachary Taylor Park.
Thank you Kyle Edgerton for post-run drinks! We will need more volunteers starting next week. Without volunteers to fill the schedule (which is currently empty), we will not have drinks provided at SLR! The schedule of routes and distances is now posted to take us up to the beginning of the next Marathon Training Program cycle, when it begins ramping up in June for MCM. As another reminder, starting in June we'll be looking for volunteers to cover mid-run drinks as well as post-run drinks, to help get us through the hot summer months.

On Saturday April 29th, lululemon is sending their #morethanmiles Test Truck to hang out in the community and would love to see people from this "DC Road Runners" they've been hearing so much about! Starting at 9:30 am near the SLR start/finish area, we invite you all to come hang out and have some good breakfast food and check out what More than Miles has to offer. The truck is equipped with a treadmill and music for a unique running experience. If you'll be there to run SLR starting at 8:00 am, you can hang out when you get back, or just come have breakfast and catch up with lots of fun DC Road Runners and celebrate that spring is here! Hello Saturday Runners!
The route for Saturday, April 15, will be 12 miles to RFK and back (additional map here). For a shorter run, you can simply turn around earlier, cutting off the out & back at whatever point you like. To extend the run, if you take a left at 15th St on your way back and go down around the end of Hains Point before returning to Memorial Bridge and the start, it will be about 16 miles.
Good luck to everyone heading out this weekend for the Boston Marathon! Since I'm making my first trip to Hopkinton this year I won't be at SLR, but Kerry O'Brien will be there get things started for you. You should have a nice spring morning in store on Saturday, with ideal running weather - relatively low humidity and temperatures in the 50s!
