Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

This Sat, March 16th, we will be running the Loops of Battery Kemble route, listed at 16 miles (but easily modified for more or less).
Please thank Eric Waskowicz for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Check the cue sheet for directions and mileage options on this club favorite route. Don't do any loops and come directly back (take a left on Cap Crescent trail when you come out of the woods) for a little over 14 miles, do 1 loop of Battery Kemble for about a 15 mile run, 2 loops gets you over 16 miles.
Please keep in mind that the Rock-n-Roll USA Marathon and Half-Marathon will be going on in D.C. Saturday, so while our route should not have any conflicts with the race route there may be increased foot traffic in the area, road blockages, and/or parking restrictions. Please plan ahead and give yourself a little extra time. Oh, and good luck if you will be racing!!

This Sat, March 9th, we will be running the 4 Mile Run Park to Pentagon Loop, its about 11 miles. This should be a good distance for our runners doing the Rock-n-Roll USA Marathon or Half-Marathon next weekend in D.C. If you are looking for more than 11 miles you can add a loop around Roosvelt Island and come back through Rosslyn for 13 miles total, or more loops for more miles at about 1.25 miles per loop.
I can't make it but will have a sub getting things started. Please thank Eric Waskowicz for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months (April is open). Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Its a pretty flat route so its a good one for tempo's or race pacing - might want to wear sunglasses or a hat, I seem to remember having the sun in my face a lot.
Have fun!

This Sat, March 2nd, we will be running the Glover Archbold/Mass Ave./Capital Crescent Loop. Its about 13.5 miles and has a couple miles of easy trail running through Glover Archbold park before getting back on the roads.
I'll be out of town but Brian will be getting things started. Please thank Janate Abbate for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Only a few turns on this one to remember! After taking the Key Bridge, run on the Capital Crescent trail for a 1/2 mile then go right through Culvert to run on Glover Archbold trail. After 2 miles on the trail, the 4th street crossing is Massachusetts Ave. Turn left. After going 2 miles and passing 2 traffic circles on Mass. Ave., you'll see a little bridge crossing overhead. This the Capital Crescent Trail. Take the ramp on the left up to the trail and go left (south) all the way back to Key Bridge and back to Iwo Jima.
Have fun!
