Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Saturday, Feb 8th, we will be running the Long Bridge Park route, at just about 15 miles. We will be heading past the Pentagon, through Crystal City, and back up on the Mt. Vernon Trail - check the map if you need it.
Thank You to Mary Ellen for more fine post-run drink work! We don't have anyone lined up for February or March and we NEED drink volunteers. Its not a lot of work and the club reimburses your expenses. Please email SLR@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out!
The route is 15 miles as-is - for those of us in Marathon training who may need additional miles, see below:
Looks like great winter running weather - the snow is supposed to hold off until after noon! Temps will be right around freezing so dress accordingly!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, Feb 1st, we will be running the Rock Creek to Ross Drive "lolipop" route, distance of about 14 miles. I'm going to make a strong suggestion that everyone modify the route to avoid the big hill on 31st street and the brief trail running section in Dumbarten Oaks Park. The trail may be covered with snow and ice - which will most likely be turning into mud and slush once the temperature gets above freezing.
Instead, lets take a Right on Wisonconsin to run along the Georgetown Waterfront park, then pick up the Rock Creek park trail after the Thompson Boat Center. A left here will put us back on the route. Stay on the trail, then shortly after Pierce Mill, stay right on Rock Creek Parkway; after passing the ranger station take a left to get onto Ross Drive, which will lead back out to Pierce Mill. Return the same way through Georgetown.
Thank You to Mary Ellen for more fine post-run drink work! We don't have anyone lined up for February or March and we NEED drink volunteers. Its not a lot of work and the club reimburses your expenses. Please email SLR@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out!
If you need an extra couple of miles, you can come back via Memorial Bridge. Or for 4 extra, add on the "bridge to bridge" loop.
Looks like great winter running weather, with temps predicted to be back above freezing for Saturday!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat., Jan 25th, we will be running the 4 Mile Run Park to Pentagon route, at about 11 miles. Please be careful out there - the trail will likely still have snow coverage in spots and be splippery, so take it easy and watch your footing. On the plus side, the route is mostly on pedestrian-only paths so you will not have to contend with cars. I'll be out of town (in fact running in a warmer climate) but have a sub starting things off.
The basebuilding is over and its time to really focus on those Spring Marathons.! After this week the mileages will be increasing to target the Rock-and-Roll USA Marathon in DC on March 15th and the Boston Marathon on April 21st. Options will be provided each week to add-on or shorten routes in preparation for running (or not running) a spring marathon. Check the DCRRC Saturday Long Run page for the updated schedule.
Thank You to Mary Ellen for more fine post-run drink work! We will need new volunteers in just a few weeks and don't have anyone on deck. Its not a lot of work and the club reimburses your expenses. Please email SLR@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out!
I hope you have all been getting your miles in - whether that means utilizing the infamous "dread-mill" or adorning freakish, spiked contraptions on your running shoes! Fear not the cold and snowy conditions!
