Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

This Sat, Feb 9th, we will be running an out and back on the Capital Crescent Trail. I put down 18 miles for those in Marathon training, but obviously feel free to do any distance since its an out and back. I won't be able to make it but have a sub to start things off.
Please thank Johnathon Pelish for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out. In club news, the GW Birthday Marathon & Relay is coming up on Sunday, Feb. 17th. If you aren't running or cheering I'm sure they could still use volunteers.
As far as mileage options go:
I will be scheduling the rest of the Spring SLR routes soon, targeting the Rock-n-Roll USA Marathon and Half Marathon in D.C., and the Boston Marathon - with a long run 3 weeks out from each race. Give me a shout if there are any other Spring Marathons you would like me to work into the schedule!

This Sat, Feb 2nd, we will be running the Arlington Triangle Route, listed at just over 16 miles. There is an option for 12 miles (below), shorter than that and you'll just have to make it an out and back.
Please thank Janate Abbate for our post-run drinks!
Check the new cue sheet and map for details on the 16 mile route. If you would like 12 miles, you can do a "loli-pop" loop utilizing the 4 mile run trail. About 6 miles in while running on 4 Mile Run, take Mt. Vernon Ave south across the River, then hop back on the 4 mile run trail to head back. Take Route 1 North to continue on 4 Mile run then return via the Mt. Vernon Trail.
After a week of non-sensical up and down weather, it seems to be back to the clold stuff with morning temps predicted to be in the low 30s Saturday.

This Sat, Jan 26th, we will be running the Loops of Battery Kemble route, listed at 14 miles (but easily modified for more or less).
Please thank Miguel Cuya for our post-run drinks! As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Check the cue sheet for options. Don't do any loops and come directly back (take a left on Cap Crescent trail when you come out of the woods) for a little over 14 miles, do 1 loop of Battery Kemble for about a 15 mile run, 2 loops gets you over 16 miles.
Its starting to get COLD out there! So bundle up and stay warm (but not too warm). Please keep an eye out for snow and ice on the roads as well. Most of it should be melted off the roadways but the trails may still be wet. Nothing better than getting that long run over on a cold & crisp winter morning then relaxing the rest of the day away!
