When did you begin running and why?

Having taken the best part of two decades off from running, I was pushed back into it by my wife a few years ago who kept signing us up for races - longer and long ones. At some point - after the Army 10 Miler 2013 to be precise - the competitive spirit re-emerged and I figured I needed to train to get better.

How did you find out about DCRR and when did you join?

From DCRR's local races and then later the marathon training program. Joined in spring 2014.

What are you training for right now?

Hopefully a BQ-Marathon time near Trenton, next month.

What is the toughest run or race you've ever participated in?

The Harpers Ferry half last year. The first real day of humidity and some nasty climbs. Runs with my brother (he's two-years older and in the British Army) are usually memorably tough and competitive.

What's your favorite part about being a DCRR member?

The variety of club runs that are on offer through the week and the cheap, well-organized races.

What's your favorite route in the area?

Manassas battle fields (with my dog).

What's the most important lesson running has taught you?

Look after myself better - salads, stretching.

What race day traditions do you have?

Keeping it to one cup of coffee at breakfast and getting to the race way too early.

What's your proudest running moment?

For a very brief second, being at the front of the U13 National XC championships; sending along race results and photos to my folks back home..

What's your life like outside of running?

Like to hike, camp, read and potter around the garden. Work for a labor union. Married to a fellow runner.

What is one thing you wouldn't run without?

Strava, now that i have joined.
