SLR May 6 - Bluemont L-Loop

Hello Saturday Runners!

This week's run will be a 12 mile loop within Arlington, along the Bluemont L-Loop route (map here). To shorten the route to 10 miles, you can return directly to the start rather than running the short leg of the "L" (down past Roosevelt Island) when you get to Lynn St at the bottom of the Custis Trail in Rosslyn. To further shorten the route less than 10 miles, you can also hop directly over to the Custis Trail, rather than going down the Bluemont Trail, after crossing to the west side of Glebe Rd in Ballston. This will cut about 3 miles off of the route, so you can make this modification on its own for a 9 mile run, or combine both shortcuts for a 7 mile run.  If you'd like more distance beyond 12 miles, you can add as much out & back distance as you like on either the W&OD Trail or the Mt. Vernon Trail.

We have some rain in store this weekend, but hopefully the current forecast will hold and we can all stay dry on Saturday morning...

Thank you Christine & Paul Westcott for providing post-run drinks this week! Please remember that starting in June we'll be looking for volunteers to cover mid-run drinks as well as post-run drinks, to help get us through the hot summer months. Also, as a reminder, our meeting time will be shifting an hour earlier to 7:00 am, beginning the Saturday after Memorial Day, on June 3.

Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. Post-run volunteers are typically scheduled for at least 2 consecutive weeks to cut down on handoffs of the bins, while mid-run drinks can be booked on a week by week basis. SLR drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this perk, do your part to keep it going! Volunteering is easy, doesn't take a lot of time, and all restocking expenses will be reimbursed by the club.

Happy running!
