Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

This Sat, June 8th, we will be running the 4 Mile Run park to Pentagon route, listed at 11 miles. I'll be out but have a sub starting things off. Don't forget the 7:00am start time which will continue all summer long!
We need mid-run beverage volunteers!! Its starting to get hot out there and we do not have anyone on deck for mid-run beverages this week. Its everyone's duty to help out at least once. Here's how: Go to The SLR Website, look under "Summer Mid-Run Beverages", pick a date that does not yet have a name in parentheses after it, email slr@dcroadrunners.org with that date. I'll coordinate with you on when and where to be and the club will reimburse your expenses. If everyone helps out only 1 day, then we all will have mid-run drinks to keep us cool all summer long!
Please thank Franco Ordonez for our post-run drinks this week! As always we seek post-run drink volunteers for the coming months (August is still wide open). Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
If you need MORE miles you know the drill! Continue on Mt. Vernon and come back through Rosslyn for around 1.5 extra miles, do the "bridge to bridge" run (~4 extra), or run down to the Capital Building and back (~6 extra).
Its a pretty flat route so its a good one for tempo's or race pacing - might want to wear sunglasses or a hat, I seem to remember having the sun in my face a lot. Stay Cool!

This Saturday, June 1st, we will be running the Piney Branch route, listed at about 12.5 miles. I'll be out at the Northface trail races (along with a few other dedicated SLR runners) but will have a sub starting things off. We now begin our Summer 7:00am Start time to take advantage of the cooler parts of the day.
Thank you to Rick DeSaussure for our post-run drinks! We will also be needing mid-run drinks for all Saturdays this summer to keep us hydrated in the hot & humid weather. Please check the SLR webpage for dates of need and email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Directions: Check cue sheet and map; Run route as written for about 12.5 miles, or for a little extra: run down to the Georgetown waterfront, take that towards DC and take the Rock Creek trails south. Take Memorial bridge back. This makes it like 14 miles total.
Thats all for now! Happy Running!

This Sat, May 25th we will be running the National Capital 12 miler route. Check the cue sheet for clarification. We will still be starting at 8:00am since the weather is a bit cooler than normal - predicted low 50s Saturday Morning - then rolling back to a 7:00am start time once it warms up starting June 1st.
Please thank Rick DeSaussure for our post-run drinks the month of May. As always we seek drink volunteers for the coming months. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Post-run and mid-run beverage needs for summer have been posted so please check and see where you can help out. If you can't do a whole month of post-run beverages consider teaming up with a fellow SLR runner to get the month covered. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out with any beverage needs.
Mileage Options:
8: To cut it down to an 8ish mile run, come back via Memorial Bridge after we make our way back to the Lincoln Memorial
12: Run route as written
14: Before crossing the 14th street bridge, make a loop around the Tidal Basin (14 miles). Add on even more distance by taking Mt. Vernon trail south toward DCA for a brief out-and-back, then coming back as described in the directions.
Water fountains/bathrooms under the Lincoln Memorial, in the little house east of the Wasington Monument, and under the Jefferson Memorial if you need it!
Enjoy this classic tour of Washington DC landmarks!
