Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 7:00 AM for the remainder of the summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Our route on Saturday July 25 will be Cathedral-Clintons for 13 miles (additional map here). If you'd like to add any distance, you can do an out and back on the Mall when you reach the Lincoln Memorial on your way back, which will get you up to 18 miles total if you go all the way to the Capitol. For a shorter run, I'd suggest doing an out and back on the Rock Creek trail.
Thank you Angela Katson for providing post-run beverages! We do not currently have a mid-run beverage volunteer for this week or next week, July 25 and August 1, so please get in touch with me if you'd like to supply drinks for the group on either of those dates. Wihout volunteers to give us a pit-stop, you will need to rely on either water fountains or carrying your own liquids.
There are plenty of other volunteer opportunities this summer for both mid-run and post-run drinks, with up to date needs posted on the SLR page. Please email me any dates you can cover mid-run drinks, or at least 2 consecutive weeks (preferably 4 weeks) for post-run drinks - the club will reimburse all expenses. If you enjoy the beverages provided for our runs, please do your part and volunteer!
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route on July 18 will be RFK (additional map here) for 12 miles. If you'd like to extend the route to 16 miles, you can add a dip down to Hains Point on the way back by taking a left at the Washington Monument. Take another left just before the Jefferson Memorial onto Ohio Drive, and follow it down around the point and heading north along the river back to the Lincoln Memorial. If you'd rather do a run shorter than 12 miles, just turn around when you've gone half your desired distance. I'm out of town this weekend, so Kerry O'Brien will be starting your run on Saturday morning.
Thank you Angela Katson for providing post-run beverages! Please take a moment to thank Flora Arabo as well, when you see her at the mid-run beverage stop in Lincoln Park. We do not currently have a mid-run volunteer for the next 2 weeks, July 25 and August 1, so please get in touch if you'd like to supply drinks for the group on either of those dates.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week we will be running out and back on the Capital Crescent Trail (additional map here). The planned distance is 13 miles, but you can easily run as short or as long as you'd like on this route by simply turning around whenever you get to half of your target distance. To get 13 miles, the turnaround point is near Mass Ave. You can turn around earlier at the water fountain just before the tunnel for 10 miles, or at the water fountain just before Bethesda for 16 miles. Hopefeully the weather forecast holds out, and it's a nice cool & clear morning on Saturday! I'm going to be out of town this week, but Andrew Simpson will be starting the run for you.
Thank you Garett Rose for providing post-run beverages! Once again, this week we do not currently have a mid-run beverage volunteer. If nobody steps up before Saturday, there are a number of water fountains on this route that you'll pass in both directions, at the Francis Scott Key Memorial (1 mi), Fletcher's Boathouse (3.5 mi), the Dalecarlia Tunnel (5 mi), and Bethesda (8 mi, if you're going far enough to reach it).
We have plenty of volunteer opportunities this summer for both mid-run and post-run drinks, with up to date needs posted on the SLR page. Please email me any dates you can cover mid-run drinks, or at least 2 consecutive weeks (preferably 4 weeks) for post-run drinks - the club will reimburse all expenses. If you enjoy the beverages provided for our runs, please do your part and volunteer!
Happy running!
