2017 DCRRC JFK 20K & MLK 5K

The 2017 John F. Kennedy (JFK) 20K and Martin Luther King (MLK) 5K races will be held in mid-January. This year, the races will start and finish in Carderock and will be out-and-back courses on the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath. The 20K will count as the fourth DC Road Runners Snowball Series race.

Distance and course: This races will feature both a 20K and a 5K on the C&O Towpath.  The 20K course will be an out-and-back from Carderock to just past Chain Bridge.  The 5K course will be an out-and-back from Carderock to just past the I-495 Beltway overpass.  Certified courses, click here for map.

Registration: Please Register online before the race. There will be no race day registrations. Online registration will close at 7:00 P.M. on January 13. Want to run both races? Then please register twice, once for each distance ... you'll have to use two different email addresses to do this.

Packet Pickup: Packet pickup will be race day only.

Refund policy for low key races: In the event the race is canceled, pre-paid non-members will receive a credit to be applied to a future low-key race.

NPS Race Rules:  These races take place in the National Park Service's jurisdiction.  Please familiarize yourself and comply with our NPS Race Rules.

Race-day Information: Please arrive early to pick up your timing chip.  We plan to start the race at the far south-east end of the Carderock Recreation Area (the opposite end from where we start/finish the Gar Williams Half Marathon).
Registration table will open at 8:00 A.M.
The 5K Race will start promptly at 9:00 A.M.
The 20K Race will start around 10:00 A.M, once all 5K runners have completed the course.  20K runners are requested to arrive no earlier than 9:30. The National Park Police may be monitoring the event.
The National Park Service may require that we cancel the race in the event of bad trail conditions on race day, such as snow or ice.

Timing and Awards: This race is timed using the Chronotrack timing system. Please familiarize yourself with how the timing tags work by visiting the Chronotrack website.

Old Ox Brewery has donated gift cards for the top three males and females. Cyclebar will be manning a water station on the course and at the finish line. Volunteers: Race director, Angeline Hannachi, needs volunteers to assist with runner check-in, course marshals, and post-race refreshments.  Please email her to volunteer.

Directions: Take the Capital Beltway (I-495), to the Clara Barton Parkway headed west, outside the beltway.  Make a right on the first exit which is for both Carderock and the Naval Surface Warfare Center (Carderock Division). Turn left at the stop sign at the top of the ramp to cross the parkway. After passing under the canal, turn left for parking in the lot closest to DC.  If the lot is full, please turn right and use one of the other parking lots.  Or follow this link for Google map and directions.
