Saturday June 20th at 8 a.m. on Haines Point at the Golf Course parking lot is the second meeting of the Jump Start prequel to the Army Ten-Miler Training Program, for which DCRRC is the exclusive partner. The Program stats on July 11th with a run of 3 miles, but the free four-week Jump Start prequel will enable committed persons new to running to be able to start the Program with other runners. Everyone is welcome, the participants will be going two miles after warm-ups. Online registration at this website is open for the Program.
Also on Saturday at 7 p.m., the Hugh Jascourt Memorial 4-Miler will be run at Fletcher's Boathouse. This will be the first Bunion Derby Race since the last club race was cancelled due to lightning earlier this month. Volunteers to work the race are needed, please contact the RDs Pat Brown or Susan Hage if you can help out.
July 4th, a Saturday, will see the running of the Age Handicap 4-Miler, a Bunion Derby event in which starting times are staggered based upon a runner's age, at Carderock at 8 a.m. It is a race tradition that runners bring unusual things for winners' prizes. Contact RD Ian Clements, 703-838-2026, if you can help out with this race.
Monday July 6th at 7 p.m. the DCRRC Board will meet at the Silver Diner in Clarendon for club business. Everyone is welcome.
The club is the owner of a new van, a white 2008 Chevy Express Van.
Brian Danza scoured the country's car lots to make this perfect purchase, and this roomy vehicle will be a great boon to the club's racing directors and their ability to electronically time races with the club's new timing equipment, also procurred by Brian. The van is bigger than the last vehicle we had, so take extra care in driving it, especially going around corners and driving next to objects. It is wider (and longer) than you might be used to.
Online registration is open for the National Capital 20Miler/5Miler in September. The race is capped at 500 total runners, so make sure you don't get shut out.
