Burke Lake 4.5M Info; Upcoming Events

Members and Guests:

August 21st BURKE LAKE 4.5 MILE RACE INFORMATION: We apologize for the fact that the link to this race on the Race Schedule was not functioning. It should be functioning now. Nevertheless, here is the information you will need. VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED FOR THIS EVENT. PLEASE ARRIVE AROUND 6:00 IF YOU CAN HELP. (LATER IS OKAY IF YOU CAN HELP WITH TIMING AND OTHER FINISH LINE DUTIES).

START: The race starts at 7:00 pm SHARP on Tuesday August 21st. Due to sundown at approximately 8:00, we will ask those runners who anticipate running at a pace of 10:30 per mile or slower to be available for an "early start" at 6:45 pm SHARP. We will start the bulk of the field precisely 15:00 after this early start, so the early starters will be able to easily calculate their times.

Please do not participate in the early start unless you meet these time criteria. Those who do so and who obviously belonged with the main group will risk being disqualified from the socring of the race.

Because of the time constraints on this race, we will not be able to accommodate walkers.

DIRECTIONS: The entrance to Burke Lake Park is off Route 123 (Ox Road). It is the first left after the golf course. To reach the race, take Beltway exit 54 (old exit 5), West on Braddock Rd (Rt.620) about 1.6 mi to Burke Lake Rd (Rt. 645). Left about 4.5 mi to Ox Road (Rt. 123), L about 0.6 mi to first left past the golf course clubhouse, follow signs to ice cream parlour. (You will be bearing left.)

COURSE: The course is a 4.5 mile loop around Burke Lake, mostly on trail but with some road segments. The link to the course map is functioning.

We look forward to seeing you at the race!

OTHER NEWS:

1. Greenbelt 15K September 2nd:
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! Please join us to volunteer or compete at the Larry Noel 15K on Sunday, September 2nd, at 5:00 pm. Location: Greenbelt, MD. A great way to finish off your summer season, or start the fall season. (The weatherman will determine which.) Always a fun event, and always in need of volunteers. See information to the left.

2. 20-Miler Fast Approaching: Registration is now open for this signature race on the Club's schedule. Sunday September 30, 2007, at 7:30 am. PLEASE consider volunteering for this event. It takes a lot of hands to do all the work necessary -- you do not have to stay for the entire race; in fact, getting a "new crew" who can arrive at 10:00 and stay until noon is always a big help.

Run well.
