20-Miler; September Schedules

Members and Guests:

1. Narional Capital Area 20-Miler Coming Soon! The 23rd Annual National Capital 20-Miler will be held Sunday, September 30th, at 7:30 a.m., starting at the Carl Sandburg Middle School in the Alexandria/Mount Vernon section of Fairfax County. This race has been for many years the prime tune-up for the Marine Corps and other fall marathons. It is one of our signature races, and takes an enormous amount of effort from race director Chuck Evans, and his co-diretors, bob and Delabian Thurston.

VOLUNTEERS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED! If you can help in any capacity, please contact Delabian Thurston at delabian@aol.com It greatly assists the race directors to know well in advance who they can count on, so please sign up early. Benefits include: A long-sleeve t-shirt, and completion of your volunteer requirement for EITHER the just-completed Bunion Derby or the forthcming 2007-2008 Snowball Series.

Of course, we hope that those of you who want to run a race of this length will do so! Sign up early to get the best entry fee!

2. Larry Noel Greenbelt 15K: The 49th running of this event took place Sunday night in unusually fair conditions. Results are posted. Thanks for RD Ben Richter and his large and outstanding crew of volunteers for putting on this 15K and the accompanying 3K.

3. September Track Workouts: Track workouts will continue each Wednesday night this month on the Washington-Lee track. (There are no scheduled conflicts at this point.) We will follow the schedule posted on the Track Workout page. This week will be 4 x 5:00 at 5K pace, with a 5:00 rest interval. This workout will really rest and assess your fitness -- please be there!

4. Saturday Long Run: The salad days of long runs in the fall are upon us! Kerry O'Brien is always on the lookout for refreshments volunteers, both mid-course and at the end of the workout at Iwo Jima. Please contact Kerry at raptorkerry@yahoo.com if you can help. Check out the planned runs on the SLR page.

5. Board Meeting September 10th: The regularly-scheduled bi-monthly meeting of the DCRRC Board will take place Monday, 9/10, at the Silver Diner in Clarendon. Agenda will include planning for 20-Miler and Turkey Trot, as well as preiminary planning for our 2008 race schedule.

Run well!
