Rob Koborsi, National Marathon at MLK/JFK 5K/20K

DCRRC Members and Guests:

Rob Koborsi, an 8-time All-American at Georgetown University, and currently both an assistant coach for the Hoyas and a Reebok-sponsored professional runner, will highlight pre-race and post-race events surrounding the MLK5K and JFK 20K this weekend.

The MLK 5K is an official qualifying event for the National Half-Marathon, to be run March 29th. Wirefly National Marathon and Half Marathon Director Keith Dowling will also be at the races.

Races start on K Street, underneath the Whitehurst Freeway, in Georgetown. Courses are out and back along the Capital Crescent Trail. Start time is 9:00 am.

Rob will do a brief pre-race discussion at 8:00 am at Georgetown Running Co. He'll also be available before the race in the start area, and will do a post-race discussion, also at the Georgetown Running Co., at 10:00 am. The store is located at 3401 M Street, just up the steps from the start/finish area.

Board Meeting News: The DCRRC Board met Monday January 14. Committees were formed for Nominations for officers and directors for 2008-2009, as well as for determining runner of the year and other awards for the year just past.

Nominating Committee Chair: Joe Racine.

Awards Committee Chair: Kerry O'Brien.

Those with ideas, nominations, or suggestions, please contact Joe or Kerry respectively.

The Board also decided to approve a joint agreement with the national office of the Road Runners Club of America to establish an internship program. The interns will work out of the RRCA office in Arlington, and will devote about 25% of their time to supporting DCRRC in the areas of website enhancement, communications, and publicity for our events. We look forward to working with the RRCA national office -- now back in our territory -- on this exciting venture.

The annual investment for this program, which was approved on a 1-year basis, is $1500 from DCRRC.

Next Race: Our next events after the 5K and 20K are the Indoor Track Meet, Sunday January 20 at 8:30 am at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, and the Capital Hospice 12K, on Saturday February 9 at 9:00 am.

Inclement Weather: Any changes to race or workout wchedules necessitated by inclement weather or poor surface conditions will be posted in this space as soon as decisions are made.

GWB Marathon and Marathon Relay Upcoming/Runners & Volunteers Needed: The GWB Marathon and Marathon Relay are coming soon: February 17, 2008. Please consider running the race (which is both a Snowball Series and Championship Series event. The other running option is to form a 3-member team and compete in the Marathon Relay. Finally, volunteers aplenty are needed for this event. The race director is Pat Brown.

Run strong,

Ed
