Hello Saturday Long Runners!
Salt air and the rust on your door, it's August baby! The weather has shifted, the air is cooling (for now), and tomorrow is a great day to take advantage of some great weather. Now let's get into it:
The Route: After swimming in humidity the past couple of weeks, we're taking a dip in the Water Route (strava, gps, pdf) this week! We'll head across the Key Bridge down the Rock Creek trail and over to Hains, though we may have to make a slight detour due to road closures in that area (it's been very hit or miss that direction, but won't add any distance). From there we'll go around Hains Point then around the Tidal Basin and head back across Memorial Bridge and up the Mount Vernon Trail to finish the run!
Want Something Shorter? The Smithsonian metro stop makes a great way to get back quickly from this one. Otherwise cutting out Hains Point will remove 3.5 miles and cutting off the Tidal Basin will remove about 2.
Need a Longer Route? Extra loops of Hains will get you some extra miles, just be mindful that for every additional loop you're probably losing a little bit of sanity. An out and back on the Mount Vernon Trail is another option if you don't want to lose your mind.
Thirsty? In the summer months, the water route also means a plethora of fountain options, though a few of them are probably turned off. We also don't have any volunteers for post-run drinks, let me know if anyone's available!
Need a Bathroom? There are many around the mall, most of which should even be open in the morning!
The next club race is the Meet of Miles and Family Track Night in collaboration with PVTC on Sunday August 3rd at 4:30 PM at Yorktown High School. Come out for a mile or a 3K for you, or an 800 or a 400 for your kids!
Happy Running!
