SLR July 20 - EARLY START - ROUTE CHANGE - C&O Canal

Hello Saturday Runners!

With the exreme heat that's forecast for tomorrow morning, we're making a few changes to the plans for SLR. Start time will be one hour earlier at 6:00 am, and the route is going to be out and back on the C&O Canal Towpath (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). It's going to be pretty miserable out there even in early morning, with a high temp of 100 deg later in the day, so we're recommending that you run no longer than 60 mintues tomorrow, however far that takes you. This is easy to customize on the Towpath out & back route. Mid-run drinks provided by Shawn Zeller will be located at Fletchers, just over 3 miles from the start, where you can also use bathrooms and water fountains if needed. Be sure to carry your own additional water, and reduce your pace from what you'd usually run - it will be very easy to overheat, so be careful! Take a look at these hot weather running tips from RRCA (our parent organization), and keep an eye on each other out there. Don't hesitate to take breaks if you need to, or call off your run altogether if you're not feeling acclimated and up for it.

Thank you Will Hernandez for post-run drinks over the last few weeks! We need a volunteer for mid-run drinks next week on 7/27, so please let me know if you can help with this or anything else. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.

Happy running,

Mike
