SLR December 15 - EARLY START 7:00 AM - MBT Catholic

Hello Saturday Runners!

NOTICE: EARLY START TIME - This week only on December 15, we will be meeting at 7:00 am rather than 8:00 am, to hopefully reduce conflicting congestion with Wreaths Across America at Arlington Cemetery. Next week will return to our regularly scheduled time.

This week's route is the 14 mile MBT Catholic loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS), run in reverse. To follow the route in reverse, start out by crossing the Key Bridge into Georgetown, take the C&O Canal over to Rock Creek, head north toward Calvert, and mirror the remaining directions from there. If you're loading the GPS file into your watch for navigation, I know that at least Garmin models will have an option to "Do Course in Reverse" when you select the course and start navigation. Running this route in reverse will give you a chance to preview the toughest uphill on the Rock n Roll DC marathon course, leaving you with more race-day confidence in what's ahead. If you'd like to go for less than 14 miles, probably the easiest way to do this is run out & back on the Rock Creek Park trail (and maybe run up the Calvert hill too if you're feeling up for a challenge).

Thank you Steve Kuhn for post-run drinks this week, and Jonny Pellish for filling in for me! We are now in need of post-run drink volunteers after next week, so please let me know if you can help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.

Nominations for 2018 club awards (presented at the Club Banquet in March 2019) will be accepted until January 6, 2019. You may submit multiple nominations, for the same or different awards. Self-nominations are allowed. This is your annual chance to recognize the outstanding achievements of your SLR buddies!

Happy running,

Mike
